i am looking at new bikes to fill the void the falco left me...
after i get moved to NH, i want to pick something up... preferrably cheap.... i have been looking at
1 leftover '03 Honda 919
2 almost new, slightly used 03 sv650
3 Ken's KLR 650
4 an 02 MZ Skorpion.
i want something streetfighter-ish... affordable and more sensible than the falco was... but i still want something ridiculously fun to ride. i am not all into the bling thing this time, i want something more subtle that the cops and bling guys won't see coming.
Does anyone know anything about MZ's? i have never seen them in the states before, but this thing looks cool and has a yamaha 660cc thumper in it... i like unusual bikes like that.
Of course the honda would be a great choice cause it would probably run forever and hold its value ok, and its got a real nice motor bundled in there. but its the most pricey of the lot.
No one seems to be able to say a bad thing about an SV, its just tough to go to a 650 suzuki vtwin from the 1 liter aprilia vtwin its more of an image thing than a power thing, i mean really... taylor used to ride one of them?!?!?!![]()
and Ken's KLR 650 looks like a lot of fun... and very economical.
what would you go with and why?

You should buy Ken's KLR, so he can hurry up and buy that VFR I've always wanted![]()
If you think the power output of the SV650 wouldn't be enough after having ridden a literbike then definitely scratch the MZ off of your list. The SV absolutely trounces that bike in the power department.
Beyond that I really can't help you as I wouldn't really be interested in any of those motorcycles, with the possible exception of the KLR which could be fun in certain situations.

Yes but what are the chances of us being plunged into a post-apocalyptic wasteland, where it's every man for himself and the only friends you can count on being alive come morning are your trusty KLR and your mutant-zombie-smashing 12 gauge?Originally posted by 02SuperHawkRdr

Huh? Kim Jong-who? Has what now? Oh.
Buy the KLR.
i kind of like the lower power idea. i need to slow myself down a bit on the street. i want something i cant kill myself on as easily as i probably would have if i kept the priller.
I was getting downright stupid with riding the priller like a real yahoo through traffic and everything else.
its like spidermans uncle says... with great power comes great responsibility.
i had a real hard time being responsible on the priller, i am sure i was getting near the end of my luck reserve.
get the SV.
you know you want it, ya tool.
The only "intuitive" interface is the nipple.
It's not on your list but a V-Strom 650 is a friggin riot to ride. Rode a friend's a couple of weeks ago and was grinning from ear to ear. I will have one someday. It meets all your criteria and is dirt cheap.
The high and wide bars, crazy tight turning radius, effortless steering, long travel suspension ,and great seat make it the best back road bike I have ever tried. The SV engine is perfect for it and has a reputation for durability.
Now that's not a bad idea at all....

Too bad you probably can't find a used V-Strom 650.
One nice thing about the SV... lots of them around.

Thought about the Triumph at all? The sprint is also along the lines of what you are looking at.. higher bars, 100HP..., and triumph dealers ALL seem to have leftovers at rock bottom prices... And you sure as shit don't see too many trumpets on the road!

But when we ride very fast motorcycles, we ride with immaculate sanity. We might abuse a substance here and there, but only when it's right. The final measure of any rider's skill is the inverse ratio of his preferred Traveling Speed to the number of bad scars on his body. It is that simple: If you ride fast and crash, you are a bad rider. If you go slow and crash, you are a bad rider. And if you are a bad rider, you should not ride motorcycles.
I think you should stay with a twin.
Honda's suck.
Thumpers are OK.
But Twins are in!!!

Can't go wrong with the SV, but the 919 is pretty fun, from what I hear. Like a big giant dirtbike with a shitload of power. And comfortable.
They aren't exactly cheap, though.
Yup.
There is an SV650 in NorthAdams right on Rt 2 for $3500. Its on the left side as you come down from the hairpin, and into town![]()

the SV will run as long as the honda I have 94k on mine so far, with nothing more or less than recommended routine maintenance.Originally posted by oreo_n2
