Hey Guys,
I know that with any bike there will be vibration, but bolts are not supposed to fall out of the bike right? Last night on my way home 2 of the bolts holding my fairings on fell out, the fairings stayed in place thankfully until I got home. I was a bit aggravated but was calm until I checked all visible bolts and found 90% of them were loose.
I am going to take the bike to the shop today where I bought it and make them do a once over to make sure everything is tight.
Is something like this expected or are the bolts supposed to have some sort of sticky glue on them (the blue stuff you usually see)?
No that's not supposed to happen. And no most of the bolts don't have Loc-Tite on them. Hopefully you get it taken care of no problem.
go through and check them all. I wouldnt use any loc-tite on the fairing bolts just make sure they are snug. Chances are the ones that fell out where not tightened down very good.
"When there's a gap you either commit yourself as a professional racing driver that is designed to win races or you come second or you come third or come fifth, and I'm not designed to come third, fourth, or fifth. I race to win, and if you no longer go for a gap that exists, you're no longer a racing driver."

I do not believe it is all that unusual for screws and bolts to be loose on a new machine. Yes, for the $xxx the stealership charged you for 'prep', they should have addressed this. But ultimately these are recreational vehicles (read: toys) and the monkeys that work on them can't really be trusted to keep their shoes tied.
Or put another way: it's you ass riding on your shit. Guess where the buck ultimately stops?
So buy yourself some hand tools and give the bike a once over. Tighten every bolt you can see. You get bonus points for getting a service manual and tightening the frame bits to spec.
Welcome to the glamorous world of motorcycling!
Be careful on the tightening for the fairing ones though. They should absolutely be tight but you dont want to crack the plastics by getting over aggressive.
Personal advise (after you visit the dealer) buy a set of t handle allen wrenches and just check them all once in a while. you can also use touch up paint for the non-fairing bolts and just put a little dab on the seam of each that way you can always visually make sure it has not moved.
I assume it is a 2011 CBR... Where did you get it?
I figured as much, this whole buying experience was horrible I will do a write-up about it on my site later today. The last bike I bought there was used and that experience was good.
Though I do remember taking my Katana there and them telling me my forks were put together wrong, when I asked what made him think that he said there should be 10 clicks and mine only has 4. He said someone probably changed the seals and put them back together wrong. I did my research and found that the TEN on the forks stood for tension and not that there should be 10 clicks.
I am questioning this dealers reputation every time I visit, this will definitely be the last purchase I make there.

Oh god. They thought "ten" meant the Number of clicks? That's hilarious.Originally Posted by jcrawford

surprise surprise surprise, they didn't put the bike together right and is falling apart. you should had sorted this stuff out before you even rode the bike. i guess your lucky it had oil (hopefully the right amount)
and now your going to bring it back so they can fuck up more stuff?
or even better more than likely do more damage to your bike.
doo now what you should had done before run away as fast as you can and NEVER go back.
never go back to the place where you were sexually assaulted.
if you haven't met him all ready go see degsy, he will not rape you and will get your bike sorted.
imagine having your bike set up and adjusted just for you with out being assaulted

i gotta say i haven't been really happy with the honda dealerships around the RI area. i've bought three bikes from one honda dealership in NC and they always give me a fair deal and take care of my bikes. the honda dealers up here seem to want to charge way more, make it impossible to get me in for service, and ignore me when i'm in the store

"ten" is stamped into the top of the Honda USD forks. It means "tension" which is another word for "rebound". It's the rebound adjuster.Originally Posted by gamorg02
