Sounds like you dealt with ErikHe is the one in charge of the car section. It all depends on who he just dealt with before you though. He gets a lot of people from other countries that come in and buy a few cars a month to ship to wherever they're from and they always try to beat him up on the price. They usually try to get the car from him for less than what they paid for it and, knowing them, they'd burn it before taking a loss. If you catch him on a good day and not try to steal the car from him you'll get a decent deal. I don't really know the lower guys there so I'm not sure about the "used car salesmen" type you dealt with.
Edit: I'm surprised they let you test drive it at all. Because they are salvaged and not repaired there is a huge safety issue there. Even if it just looks like body damage there could be more they don't know about. I've never seen anyone test drive anything from them.

Whoever I dealt with the second time around was a good guy. He didn't like my test drive at all, and let me know it, but overall he was cool. I told him what I liked and didn't like about the car, the big downsides being the lack of power and the fartcan muffler. He offered to throw a cold air intake on it, pull it into the shop and swap the muffler to something still high-flow but far less obnoxious sounding, and take a couple hundred bucks off "toward my first performance enhancement". I bit, and left with the car. I'm not 100% sure, but I think even with him I had to flash the cash to show I wasn't tire kicking to get the test drive. And then I proceeded to scare the shit out of him during it... freakin kids, huh? Also thinking back this was more like 8 years ago.
This one had been totalled, and they fixed it. I don't think I had to take it to a statie for an inspection, either, but I really don't remember it has been so long. It had fresh paint (horrible color, but looked OK quality wise over the metal. A good portion of the car was bondo, and those sections looked like shit). This was probably "repaired" and not salvaged. Too many cars/years/parties/lost brain cells ago.
