you make the call:
Am I being paranoid, or did someone case my bike?
here's the deal. I and my housemate park our bike about a block from out house. both are locked with a Kryponite "fahgettaboutit' chain to a large bike rack. both are covered. both are in a pretty well lite area.
this morning when i was leaving for work I noticed that someone had taken quite and interest in our bikes. the covers had been pulled up over the back wheel and a good ways up the side.
my first thought was that someone was skoping to strip parts or try to steal the bike(s). on second though i wondered who would be dumb enough to case a bike and then tip the owners off that something was up by leaving them 1/2 way uncovered.
what do you guys think? is it time to buy a shotgun or time to visit the shrink for paranoid schizophrenia?

These people need to die.
It was either that, or crackheads stealing your sparkplugs for crack (see that story online?)

Maybe that was an attempt. They lifted the cover, saw the "Don't-go-there" chain and split. Never to come back! (Hopefully!)

If it's not in a garage or covered area, maybe the wind lift up the cover? Just a thought....sometimes some heavy wind move stuff around....![]()

Was this on Thursday night? the sq. can get busy with drunkards and the like, maybe its possible someone "had to see" what was under there and was just some blitzed a-hole wanting to see?
Or maybe its a custom order and yours wasn't what they wanted...
A professional wouldn't tip you off and an amateur would have disturbed the securing means more or at least taken a 'go for broke' opportunistic parts raid.
Shotgun or psychotherapy? hmm which is more a shrink or a lawyer?

take an extension cord, cut off the end opposite the plug, strip about 2 feet of the plastic coating off, affix the exposed wire to the bottom of the bike cover, plug the other end into a socket, and wait.
Kinda like turning on a bug light before you go to bed.
You're almost guaranteed to find bodies in the morning.

Do you have theft insurance?
And weren't you going to get lojack installed?
And how/when/where was your other bike stolen?
I couldn't imagine keeping my bike outside. I have an alarm on it in a locked garage, steering column locked, and two guns next to me.
You can hire me to watch your bike for interval times. I garentee it won't get stolen.![]()

I think it is time for you and your buddy to go 50/50 on a self storage unit and get those bikes some covers. Much better than bing bikeless and taking in it the ass from the insurance company when they depreciate the shit out of your bike. Working fo insurance company, i see it everyday.
Could you focus a video camera on the bike?

Suf Daddy.
I think if you live in the city and you have a desirable motorcycle it's a given that people are going to try at best screw with it and at worst steal it. Obviously theives are in the neighborhood since your bike was stolen from the same area.
That said - I'd look for off-street storage. Pain in the ass and costs money, but may be the only way to have peace of mind. Good luck!

I hate to say it..... its only a matter of time before your bike is gone. Get a storage unit quick before its gone.... Have you seen the pics all over the net the faggiyabout chain was cut right in half.

Maybe you guys didn't notice, but Chris brought this thread back from the dead. Take a look at the dates of the first few posts, the thread was created in August of 2004.
Well what is Chris Sedition doing this time around to protect his bike?
Solution is simple, move to the sticks where you can leave your keys in the car, with it running, at the general store, for as long as you want, and it's still there when you get back!
A friend living in Hartford noticed I don't have a housekey on my car key... but since we only lock the door if we're on vacation, why would i need to carry a key?!
GO TO TONY'S TRACK DAYS!
I'm Bikeless.
We'll start shipping the theives to VT. Make life easier for them, and keep Me and Chris's shit safe.
