I started going in 1981, and have been there in one way or another for thirty-one of the intervening 33 events.
Like others have said, the environment was far worse in years past. Is that an excuse for continued bad behavior? Hell, no. I'd like to make a couple of points, though.
1. There are a loooooooot of people who attend bike week in one way or another.
2. I'll bet that 99.9% are like us, basically good citizens who enjoy a rally.
3. There are a small percentage that act like a##holes. I think there will be at any large, outdoor gathering that's not a Mormon sunrise service.
4. With that large a population, yes, that small percentage winds up being very visible.
5. Years ago, I noticed what I thought was a relationship between LEO presence and a##holish behavior: the larger the LEO presence, the less rowdy the rally became. I've seen what I thought have been both extremes: reckless lawlessness and domestic bliss (euphemistically).
6. I think a successful bike week strikes a balance. It's an awfully tough call by civic leaders, but personally, I think it's been well-managed over the last decade.
7. (Edit) I recall seeing quotes from Daytona folk. They'd much rather have the bikers than spring breakers. Bikers spend a hell of a lot more.
As an aside, I've found that the event is best experienced on a day-trip basis with a buddy.
Anybody on the Noth Shoah planning to go up on Sunday?

That was Red. She was rather well known.. ....I saw a tent with a line 30 guys deep going in to get laid next to our drinking area. All day and night for 72 hours. Talk about sloppy seconds. How about # 472 in line? Somewhere in New England some kid is looking for his dad.
Hey, who are you calling....
Wait, what was I going to say?
Never mind.

Technicality. It's actually been going on longer than that. The event was skipped for a coupla years duing WWII if I remember correctly...
My parents were arrested in Laconia. The story goes that while the melee ensued, my mom & dad along with some buddies were driving around in the middle of it all in a pick-up dishing out free beer. They supposedly confiscated 5 kegs and several cases of beer. They released my mom that night to my grandfather, who of Native American/French Canadian blue-collar descent was not pleased. My dad supposedly spent a coupla nights in county...![]()

I used to do [car] track days at Bryar Motorsport Park. You could always tell when Bike Week had occurred because all the doors had been ripped off the toilet stalls.
I've seen enough tattooed 200 lb gals for a lifetime, so not going.....

The problems that bike week causes is nothing compared to places like daytona or myrtle beach. A small percentage of disrespectful bikers ill take any day over an onslaught of crime committed in the other places.
When I start my KTM in the morning, rules are broken. Its inevitable...

Don't know first hand about Myrtle Beach but Daytona is pretty chill. It's mostly old dudes until the last weekend and the Daytona 200.
There is one difference: Daytona has female-on-female coleslaw wrestling!
This numbers compare favorably to NH considering it's double the size. No roads with curves....
Total trauma admissions: 50
Deaths: 3
Helmet usage: 50 percent
Average age: 44
Sex: 82 percent male, 18 percent female

I went for like my 7th year in a row now. My friend's family has the most amazing lake house right on Channel Lane (the only street off of the Weirs Bridge). He let me ride his built street glide for the weekend, it was awesome, can't thank him enough. Way better than the few years I rode my crotch rockets in leathers around.
A man of many names...Jay, Gennaro, Gerry, etc.
I was up in the Weirs Beach area 4 non consecutive days this past week. At the beginning of the week I was beginning to think the event was dieting because it was not as packed as I have remembered it in the last number of ears. There were "vacancy" signs on a lot of the area hotel/motel/cabin places. By Thursday they were replaced with "No vacancy" signs, and a lot more people.
As the numbers of people grew, so did the number of police in the area. I didn't see any real douchebaggery other than the general asshole revving his loud ass pipes unnecessarily. I own a HD with after market pipes (NOT the stupid straight pipes. Rinehart pipes. Nicer sound, not incredibly loud. And ads a little performance when tend correctly as they are true dual pipes.), but rarely rev them for any reason. The bikes for almost the last 10 years are fuel injected. No need to blip them. Before that, yeah, some need to blip just to keep the bike going (because no one knew how to tune them right).
Anyway, I did see the cops going after some traffic idiots. They were on top of it as quick as they could when it was happening, which kept a lot of people from continuing.
For the locals, I can understand not liking large loud crowds, but the entire area is a tourist area and thrives on the crowds. If it were spring breakers or anything else like that, they's likely be louder, more disruptive, and more destructive.
I had a good time with my family. Got my Wild Bill's soda. It's good stuff.![]()

FYI true duals really only add performance at WOT.

Parked the bike on the strip walked around for less than 30 minutes, decided I would rather be on the bike looking at mountains and curvy roads instead of sweaty mamas (Spandex are not pants) and their oversized bearded men. Did not see any squid-ish behavior but a lot of law enforcement, on a side note Stay away From the Kancamangus highway it Sucks Big Time and it is construction season.
That's what the service guy told me too. A crossover pipe on the headers is a much better street application as it increases torque versus true duals. I had them install the SS headers with monster rounds. Sounds very low and basey but not loud.
I have no idea if the above is true but it runs fine and sounds good.
I had the stock connected Ypipe exhaust header on my 05 road king, running into V and H mufflers. When the Y pipe cracked, and the Harley parts guy told me that breakage is common, I decided to skip replacing a weak part with the same new weak part and just got the true dual setup from Vance and Hines.
Jay you were up and didn't stop at the speedway? Wow
