There's tons of money to be had by many, many people. I remember in the late 80's, the towns of Gilford & Laconia were looking to do away with the rally all together. That came to an abrupt hault when the recession of the early 90's hit. If I recall, that's about when they not only decided to call off the request to obliterate it, but they started to embrace and push for it to be a week-long event again...
FWIW-I don't particularly like the Weirs area during Bike Week. My wife likes making at least one trek during the fiasco. Not only does she head over, she often does so by herself or with a girlfriend or two to take it all in. They usually park in Laconia and take the train in...

Surely you mean garandbaby.
Bike week now is like a kids birthday party. I remember back in the 80's when you had people camped along both sides of 106 from Concord to Laconia camping and what not...lightin fires, gettin drunk, and taking there clothes off. I live 5 miles from the track in Loudon, and have been there for 7 years, never caused me any problems..In fact, I hardly see any bikes on 106 anymore when the festivities are over. Back in the day, it used to be a steady stream of them heading south on 106 at the end of the weekend for like 6-7 hours. Any NAscar race weekend is much worse in my opinion.

These days people get where they're going and stay put. 'Back then' we didn't have such stringent laws, fines & penalties. We've noticed that pretty much when it gets dark is when most travel and road-side shenanigans end nowadays. We were at Rocky Road Campground Saturday from about 6:00 'til midnight and were amazed at what little traffic there was on 106. Only saw about 4 vehicles on our trip back to Center Barnstead and not one was a bike!
And yes, NASCAR is inherently much more of a mess. And as you well know, it starts the day they start letting spectators bring their campers in and last until Monday-Tuesday after the race. But hey, look at how much money THAT brings in. People aren't so quick to bitch about THAT bullshit, right?![]()

My son and his friends would like to go to a NASCAR race: is that a crazy idea? Maybe take a helicopter?![]()

Holy fuck this is just awesome. Do you actually spend any time at the bikeweek events? I have taken females to Laconia and Daytona, can't remember one time that someone said shit out of line much less raped anybody. Does stupid shit get said? I'm sure. Do people get raped? Every fucking day all around America. I get the 'inconvenience' factor you are fed up with and can respect that. The rest of it is completely paranoid bullshit.
just because it hasnt happened to someone you know doesnt mean it doesnt happen. he goes over the top sometimes, but you guys are missing the point - people should feel safe bringing families there and he doesn't. i choose to not go because i dont feel safe. my experience was different i guess.

Not sure how one couldn't feel safe at bike week these days. The police presence has been heavy in the area, and they don't tolerate the douchebaggery they did years ago.
What was once an out of control drunken party has now become a civilized, low key gathering.
I just rock my dad's Laconia t-shirt from back in the day. Don't even want to go, because I know I'll be disappointed.

I don't go, point is when some people cross the border thier internal dbag switch gets turned on. And the people of this state have to deal with them. I don't like when people coming to bike week go nuts outside of the weirs, pretty sure I said that a few times. And knuckles born and raised in NH Btw. Sure we get some money but if I took a shit on your front lawn and tossed you a five and said we are good right you would not agree. For the hundreth time I just don't like the dbags for the love of the magic man in the sky.

My father has worked rallies longer than I've been alive and being that it is a "family" business that means myself, my sister and step sister all worked them as teenagers. Also there, my stepmother and a lot of female employees through the years. Daytona, Sturgis, Americade, Laconia, Biketoberfest and every little shit weekender in between. Never had an issue. To add even more to that, my father and stepmother have thick accents. To this day they would rather deal with customers there than in their store. Maybe you have had a bad string of luck but I assure you my father would never had let his teenage daughter work there with what you describe and he would have made it an issue had it happened. Sucks man, I never felt unsafe. I don't go because it's not my crowd but I have never felt unsafe.

I can resist everything but Pete's mom.
Yeah, but they are Portuguese accents and no one can figure out how to complain about Portuguese. People don't even know if it's Spanish or Italian or any other language.
I live 30ish minutes from Laconia. I don't attend "the rally", but all things being equal prefer the rally to nascar weekends, but in total it's 3 weekends per year that are a hassle. I'll live (but I also haven't had the experience Greg describes... If I had my opinion would be different).
I can do that myself:
"Hey door to door meat salesman, can't you see I'm actively cutting a piece of wood on a table saw at this very moment? No? That's right, because you're a door to door meat salesman, you're excused from perceiving anything that resembles humanity."
ie: you're a retard for walking down my driveway into my back yard and trying to get me to buy a steak when I'm concentrating on cutting an angle piece of wood, off the guide. Why was I being so cautious? Because I wanted to get everything cut and the thing put away before my mother inlaw came back with my kid. What's the significance? Because I didn't want her geeking out I was doing anything unsafe, which could lead to severe injury just like my father inlaw (a seasoned carpenter) did a few weeks ago.
How is this related to bike week Greg? I don't know, but clearly you think so.
