This was a horrible crash in Chaplin, CT back in 2008. My brother knows her. There was a group of sport-bikes going to a party. This Harley rider (not to steryotype, just what he was riding) had just left the Bach Door Cafe and came up behind them. It appeared as if he wanted to show them he was faster and blew by them in a no-passing area. He didn't realize they were turning left into a driveway.

The girl was in the lead and turned first. She was t-boned. Not cool.

It was Geremia’s second drunken driving arrest and one of several arrests that included drug possession charges, Stabile said. Geremia was sentenced Tuesday as a “persistent offender,” which allows for enhanced penalties.

Geremia had pleaded guilty to charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and second-degree assault with a motor vehicle. Judge Vernon Oliver sentenced Geremia to eight years suspended after 44 months in prison and five years probation. Geremia will lose his license for a year and must use an ignition interlock device for the first two years after his license is restored. He also was ordered to attend a Mothers Against Drunk Driving victim impact panel.

“I do regret my actions that day. I have a daughter her age,” Geremia said. “I think about it every day ... my own negligence, my own stupidity.”

Defense attorney Donald Beebe asked Oliver to consider the fact Geremia is caring for two children and said Geremia disputed having any more than a few beers. Geremia’s blood alcohol level was .11, reports show. The legal limit is .08.

Vertefeuille is now a graduate assistant at Central Connecticut State University and is a semester away from earning a graduate degree in criminal justice. She said she had to rethink her career in the FBI because she wouldn’t be able to pass the physical requirements. Instead, she said she may go on to become a victim advocate.

“I just hope he learned his lesson,” Vertefeuille said.

Legally yes. But .11 is two beers in an hour for most people. But then again you never know how long it took them to do the blood test at the hospital. Either way, it's just a bad situation all around. Two lives are ruined due to stupidity.

unless most people are secretly 85 pound females, that's not accurate. the average male is around 0.04-0.05% after drinking two beers in an hour on an empty stomach, while the average female can be as high as 0.07-0.08%.

From what I've been told, doctors at the hospital can use a formula to pretty closely estimate what the blood alcohol level WAS at the time of the incident.

seems like .11 is more towards a 6 pack in an hour, but for a seasoned vetern of drinking, that is nothing, maybe a buzzz.. In Connecticut, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs is a criminal offense. This offense may be prosecuted with or without any direct evidence of a person's BAC. The determining factor is whether a person's ability to drive has been impaired.
