I took a bone stock '14 DRZ400sm to Loudon in the rain last Oct. and did low 30's with rain tires and stock everything else. I'd never been to Loudon before so I venture to guess it'll do low 20's on a dry track and in race trim. Anything past that is probably a big ask. Saying it's too slow to take to the track is silly, Sav.
I'm willing to bet mid 20's on the '08 as it sits would be attainable and silly (cheap) fun at a trackday.
Knew we'd see these pics sooner or later.![]()

Also, a WR is going to need some work (Derestricting and tune) so when you ride it, it may feel a bit slow. But after you do some work to them they are a just fine. Mine will power wheelie in 3rd all day long...

You are a lot more experienced than I am with motards and know how to
Ride them much more.
I have my opinion on the bike. Remember the ONLY other motard I have ridden where a build CRF450 and an XR650. And even that was 8 years ago.
I can't see the DRZ doing low 20s but again I could completely wrong. Again I said the only DRZ I would consider at this point would be yours.
LOL posting the same time the same pics with each other's bike was hilarious.!!!
You're fooling yourself, I'm a chump on a motard.
Watching my bike become instagram famous with some dink on it was one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time...

I have had a ton of fun riding my half-ass, on the cheap SM built DRZ/KLX as well. While my times are nowhere close to 1:30's. (My best on the DRZ was a 1:41-ish.) But I am also a guy lucky to break 1:35 on an SV. I understand the bike is not really competitive as a race bike. But as a recreational track toy, I think it is a ton of fun. And it was even more fun at NYST.
You are completely wrong. Experts are doing 16s on their CRFs. I'm sure they could drop a 20 on a DRZ without trying very hard. It's just a little heavier, a little less powerful, and a LOT more reliable. It's PRECISELY what you want in a street or trackday bike.
This reminds me of that time (so the story goes) someone was bitching about their EX500 being slow and not working right so Jeff Wood took it out and did a 15 on it; that shut them up.
Anyways, Sav has an opinion that he won't change regardless of the evidence presented so he will just make a thread and talk about it for 15 pages and nothing will happen...![]()

I think you guys have it completely wrong. I'm not looking for a track bike. Or a race motard.
I get the benefits of the DRZ. But based on my experience riding one I limit my ceiling on what I would pay for one. It's simple as that.
Anyways this is something to make myself happy and that's all that matters to me anyways. I think I actually found what I'm getting. So i might be purchasing my 28th bike tomorrow... And opening a whole new chapter in my riding life.
Again. I love doing what people told me I can't do.
Kinda like when most (if not everyone) said I can't buy a house in September if my
First ever credit card was opened in February.
Different topic same results. I will find something just as reliable but more powerful and fun (according to me).
Pretty standard logic. I don't do anything the easy way either, anyone can do that.

Funny, all the guys that ride or have owned Honda's think all motards go boom. Don't worry, I wouldn't buy a Honda for a motard either![]()
