I was riding from DC one day..

In the merry merry month of...August..

So I made my dash from Dulles to the North Shore yesterday on the C-14. Saw NO cops anywhere until I hit Concord East of the 495 NH/Cape Cod split. After that, all the way to Rt114 Middleton, I saw no fewer than 5, maybe 6 bikes pulled over. One of em was in cuffs leaning on the front of the car while the cops went through his stuff on the bike. Another, not two miles further on, a bright yellow sport bike, blue fenders? Custom paint, looked like, he looked like he was cuffed too. All of em, every one, a sport bike. LE must be having a party with these boys..

Hope no one here got tagged. Careful, folks!

Sounds to me like they had some dirt on a group of guys and they were busting them.

How was the ride otherwise? C14 behave itself?

Yeah, it's a great bike. It behaved, but I didn't. I did a few mods to it before I left, one of em I know most here wouldn't approve of, but its excellent. Plus, my dealer back home, they knew I was looking at helmets because I HATE my Shoei TZ1000 I paid almost 400.00 for. When I the bike was done with my 600 mile service, I picked it up, took it home and packed the car.

The next day I drove up here in the cage to bring stuff up, then went home Thursday. So Friday I installed a radiator guard, and started packing the bike since the weather was gonna be decent the next three days. Opened the starboard saddle-case, what's in there, but a little gift from the dealer? Arai Quantum, gloss-black, full set of vents, with a deep-smoke shield. What a great hat! That thang listed for $539.00 and they GAVE it to me brand new. I must be livin' right.

Made ridiculous time all the way up, took NJTP, the lower-level GWB, the Deegan and I-84-Mass Pike, much of it at (somewhat) super-legal speeds, and the impression is, at 700 lbs, the faster, the more stable. Fabulous mile-gobbler. It was hotter n' Hell, but manageable, even at 10MPH for 45 minutes getting past the 495 split. And, when I crossed 1000 miles, the break-in limitations were lifted and I discovered that at 6000 RPM, all hell breaks loose with this thing. I can highly recommend this bike to one and all, assuming it ain't too heavy for ya.

Anyway, Schlepps, I'm going back to Va. in one of the cages tomorrow, but the bike's here, I'll reach ya when I come back Wed., maybe we'll take a little scoot, someone gotta show me where yall ride around here. All I have is vague notions of Vermont, NH, and West to upstate NY.

Yeah we'll definitely have to go for a ride around the area. I can show you the decent stuff around here you can pass the time with until you can get up to NH/VT for the real rides.

And yes, what is the no-no mod?

I razored and peeled off the stock grips, which are like rocks. I wanted to put a Vista Cruise throttle lock on the bar, but there's no room. So, I pulled the bar-end weights, hair sprayed a pair of mushy-grips that I was saving for the Bandito (which I traded for the C-14), and pushed em against the pod for the engine-kill, start button, etc., Instant cruise control. The grip will drag enough to barely hold position, but there's no resistance when I roll off. The bike has a tip-over sensor to kill the engine in a crash, and the resistance to roll off from the springs enables me to rest my old-fuckah's wrist. Not so horrible a mod, because after all, who, when rolling off-throttle, lets go of the grip for the springs to return to idle? They don't. They roll the throttle while hangin' on. So it's a good thing. But I'm sure some folks won't like the idea.

    The Concours14. Old fuckah's bike.

Well, you know the mod. The real rides, I got nothin' but time. But yeah, short term, short available time, there's gotta be better rides than out 22 to Gloucester. If anyone knows, it gotta be you, Schlepps!
