It looks like for once, BMW has actually made a decent REAL sport bike. I'll believe it when I see it and it isn't "Harley Pig Huge", but its got TONS of cutting edge shit on this bike that is SURE to trickle down to your favorite rice rocket...
Check the 5/17/2004 post here about the K1200S

Looks slick to me!
Cheers,

But when we ride very fast motorcycles, we ride with immaculate sanity. We might abuse a substance here and there, but only when it's right. The final measure of any rider's skill is the inverse ratio of his preferred Traveling Speed to the number of bad scars on his body. It is that simple: If you ride fast and crash, you are a bad rider. If you go slow and crash, you are a bad rider. And if you are a bad rider, you should not ride motorcycles.
I must say that is one sexy bike.![]()
I'm sure interested. According to the CW article, it's intended target was the XX. It is shaft-driven and not exactly svelte compared to non-bavarian machinery; so I'd say it is more of a distance and passenger-oriented land missile than an all-out sportbike (which in my mind is a repliracer).

Yeah, the proof will be in the pudding so to speak... They "say" they have drastically lightened the shaft drive system, and are "claiming" comparable weights with other litre bikes...
But we'll see if its a pig when it comes out... looking forward to it myself, not that I'll be able to afford a freaking $18K+ bike anytime soon...

There was a video of it that I found... a lap around the Nurburgring.
Let's just say this is NOT the kind of BMW we are used to. It was hauling ass. Looks like BMW had the course closed, but it was faster than any of the laps I've seen onboard R1s, GSXRs, etc..

It sure seems like nothing we've seen before from BMW. But I'd be surprised to see it circulate the Nurburgring faster than an R1 or GSXR1K.Originally posted by benSV

Who knows, though. This is BMW we're talking about, a company known for its engineering prowess (especially on the car end).

Didn't say faster than a Superbike replica..
Said faster than any video I've seen recorded by a rider on a Superbike replica...

It looks like it has a freakishly long wheelbase, not sure if that's an illusion created by the swingarm or not. If it's true, it would indicate more of a straight line machine similar to the 'busa or XX, instead of a chicane carver. Either way, I'm just glad to see more variety in the euro sportbike segment. You can never have too much!
Anyone got intelligence on the twin-powered KTM superbike (RC-8)?? It appears it should have a respectable price tag and unique "edgy" styling unless what I heard was incorrect. The power output and weight numbers looked really good too...
A. ...But I can go to jail for that!!
Q. For what? Being f*ckin' awesome?!

We do have this to help us get a glimpse of the future, though clicky
And, yes, it does look like the K12S is going for the XX crowd to me.

WOW that was a sweet looking ride ! As radical as it is I love it.![]()

That looks like a real nice ride. Be interesting to see what the exact market is for that bike. I agree the wheelbase does look quite long by sportbike standards.
"You never see a motorcycle parked outside of a psychiatrists office"
Yeah, the wheel base does look long, but I can't tell if thats due to the digi photos (they look a little stretched) or what...
Cheers,
