    The New Brough Superior SS100

Whenever the 'dream bike' topic comes up on a moto forum, I'll almost always list mine as a late 1920s Brough Superior SS100. It was the first bike to complete a 100mph lap at Brooklands, Lawrence of Arabia owned seven of them, and died riding one - or technically, he died shortly after he stopped riding one. They have a great racing history, and the mechanicals are a stunning bit of work for the time. After a fairly successful run, they ceased operating as a motorcycle manufacturer at the start of WWII, and never restarted.

The only minor drawback to buying an original like the one below is that it will set you back a couple hundred thousand pounds.

Like Indian, the marque that never dies, the Brough Superior brand was reinvigorated in 2008. The new owners started by building spare parts for originals and replicas, and going to Bonneville to set some speed records.

Here's a link to a the SS100 90th Anniversary book that has some history and lots pf cool pics.

Now they're selling a completely new SS100. It's an interesting looking bike with a nice mix of old and new. I couldn't find a price on the website, but it's probably somewhere between the price of an original and more than I could ever afford. Enjoy!

    Dang!
I really want a Walt Siegl Ducati. And I probably can't afford that.

That bike is on a whole new level.

That's a gorgeous piece of rolling art, but not something I'd ever buy, regardless of my financial situation. To me, it's just a wildly custom "chopper"; being a form-following-function kind of guy, I'd be much more likely to own a retired MOTOGP bike and/or an original SS100, if I were wealthy enough to spend that kind of money on stuff just to have it.

Beautiful bike but to hell with the sentiments, it's owned by and Austrian and designed by a Frenchman.

My thought initially too...but closer inspection shows a lot of 'performance' stuff. Guessing it would perform pretty damn well!

I thought so too. Clearly an attempt to open the wheel up visually while keep increasing the 'swept area' of the pads. I'd like to know the difference in weight between that setup and the traditional dual 300ish mm disks.

Read the design pdf on the site, they cover that.

Beringer sells the double rotor setup for most late model sport bikes.
