    What is "The" Buell?

I have a feeling that Buells may just about have bottomed out in value. But several of them seemed to be quite good bikes, with the V-Twin sound but more modern chassis.

So if you were buying one as a collector item, what would it be? I'm assuming the 1125R is already rare on the market.

    As a collector, a s1.
As a rider, any xb. (unless you want to bring it to the track, then :none)

Always loved to look of the 1125CR, but if I was going to ride it I'd probably pick up an XB12__.

    What is "The" Buell?

There's are two S3T sport tourers available on VT and NH Craigslist right now. More rare than an S1 in my opinion having recently been shopping about. S2 even more rare.

If you're looking for a "collector" bike that you think will be valuable in the future, I don't think any of them will really do that.
If you're looking for a fun bike to ride for a while at a low buy-in, that won't lose value while you play with it, I think you could pick any of them; they'll all do that.
If you're looking for the best one to buy and keep and ride the heck out of, the Rotax-engined 1125 models are best choices -- whichever suits your style better.

The first year 1125R had some issues with excessive heat generation and poor shifting; they fixed those for 2010, and all 1125CRs are OK for those as well.

The Ulysses would be the only one I would have any interest in. The XB12X or the XB12XT. The XB12XT is probably what I would look for.

    Re: What is "The" Buell?

A good friend of mine had an S3T Thunderbolt sport-tourer for a few years. His last ride on it was one where a group of 6 of us "fast group" riders (of 30 out on a Vermont sport riding weekend) took a loop up over Jay Peak on VT242. In mid-morner at Warp 7.5 one of the motor mounts broke and he was VERY lucky to have saved a high-side. He waited patiently by his bike while others went first to find a cell phone signal, the call his buddy with a truck to come fetch.

His weekend of riding was done, and the long-time H-D fan was done with the agricultural implements for a long time. He does have a Shovelhead again, but in a sidecar hack arrangement. When he needs to get back home on two wheels, he rides his trusty old Triumph Trophy 1200.

Stay away from anything before the XB series, unless it truly is a garage queen collector piece you want.
