I really dont think I've ever even come close to that "mentality", but you are certainly entitled to your opinion.
Just for the record, you did say in your first post that you were going 44 in a 30.
I'd have pulled the tailgaiting car over. But, I come from a background of riding motorcycles. Someone who doesn't may be inclined to think that the speeding violation is more serious.
Either way, you were pulled over for a perfectly lawful reason.
You are entitled to that protection. I dont think anyone would argue that, and that is not a point I am trying to make.
I'm going to ignore the fact that that seems like a little bit of a dig, because you seem upset.
Police officers are trained to detect and address violations of the law. Therefore, if you were speeding and breaking the law, the cop is trained to pull you over and address that in whatever manner his/her department policy and the state laws require.

I said I didn't know you and didn't want to judge you, I should have pulled this out because it wasn't fair to assess when we've never spoken face to face. I apologize for that.
The cop said it was a 30, I don't know it was a 30, not wanting to call him a liar, I will trust what he says on this. He was an Upton cop, in Upton, I would hope he would not be lying about posted speed limits. I have yet to decide if I'm going to get check this out over the weekend.

I commend you for being one of the few...but you shouldn't do it because of a background riding motorcycles. You should recognize that the motorcycle was trying to create space from a vehicle threatening it's position on the road. If we were on a 2 lane road and the car came into my lane suddenly should I be cited for speeding up to avoid the collision? Or for making an unlawful lane change by swerving into the breakdown lane? These are basic safety maneuvers we're taught in rider school and now get in trouble for on the street.
A dig yes, but a vaild one. Police officers should be trying to protect society from violations of the law that THREATEN society. What I did threatened no one, all I did was avoid a potential rear end accident that could have put me in a wheel chair for life. I understand if he wants to pull me over and address the speed, but to then hear my explanation, say he understands it, and still write the citation??? Seems to me he has his quota to fill and he seemed quite happy to write the ticket.
I'm still very upset, but I am going to avoid any more digs because I can tell you are a stand-up guy and police departments need more of your type. My brother wants to become an officer when he graduates from college, I hope he follows your path and not the path of many others.
Thanks for the apology. I get bummed out when people knock me because of the way I pay my bills. There are nice guys and assholes on every block (and in every profession), one of my favorite sayings.
If you dont *know* the speed limit is 30 in that spot, I would recommend heading back to that spot with a camera. Speed limits should be clearly posted, and there shouldn't be any question.
I'd also go to court and let the judge know why you sped up. I dont know what kind of impact it would have, but I have seen similar arguments work in court here in Vermont.
I guess my point is, approach the problem from a different angle once you've cooled off. Clearly you weren't attempting to be a speed freak and cause a dangerous situation - that should be the main argument, in place of "That cop is a dick."
Oh, tell your brother to be a fireman. Everyone loves firemen, and everyone hates cops.
PS - Pm me if you have any other, more specific questions.![]()
god sake. this touchy touchy makes me sick.
30 40 50 on sportbike? pfft. try stopping the double speeder, harley, elderly, etc.
oh wait. think im one of those.
"fuckit!"

Thank you, I appreciate it, and yeah I have been pretty heated on the whole thing. I am going to go to court with it and explain what happens, and as I already said if it was 30 and the magistrate doesn't feel that was a justifiable reason then I will suffer the consequences and pay my citation. [QUOTE=highsider;728005]:
I don't race around, I don't run from cops, I ride with respect for others. That's why I have a Tony's Track Day sticker in my car, and I have the sig on here, that's where you wring out your bike, not on the street.
My brother has wanted to be a cop for a long long time, I just hope he doesn't let that authority go to his head when the time comes.
That potential rear end accident could have put you in the ground, for eternity. Fight the ticket, explain it to the judge.
I got bitched out for weaving around sand in the road. I don't care who you are or what you do for work, it really doesn't take any training, or much for brains even...to realize bikes have uhm, 2 wheels. And when one or both loses contact with the pavement...well ya. Fun times![]()
I gotta say that my soon to be brother-in-law is a cop and
he hates writing out tickets. He told me that unless the person
is being difficult and giving him shit then he won't write them a
citation.
Look at your first post there boss. Here is the information that you gave us. You said that you went 44 in a 30. You also said that you rolled of the throttle and the car behind you caught up.
You then complain later on that the car behind you was riding your ass. He caught up to you because you "let off the gas to re-adjust". If I was in the vehicle behind you, I probably would have caught up too because YOU slowed down unexpectedly to "re-adjust".
When I stop someone in a line of cars, I stop the fastest one in the group. Bike, car, minivan, bus, scooter....I don't care - whoevers going the fastest gets the stop (unless someone is doing something stupid). Would I qualify the car behind you as doing something stupid? No because you slowed then sped up. For the record, I probably wouldn't have given you a ticket but that's me. I can tell you that other people where I work probably would have given you one. We have discretion to do so.
It's a shame that you are getting all pissy about cops doing nothing all day and everything just because you got a ticket. It's also a shame that you generalize so much about how all cops are bad just because you got a ticket. It exactly this kind of mentality that you are showing that sportbikes get a bad name. All cops are bad and do nothing because you got a ticket. Funny how some people think that all sportbikers are bad because a few ride like idiots. You like being lumped into that group?
Oh, and highsider is one of the bad ones.....![]()
Bras cause cancer.
you have to work at getting a ticket from me too. I hate writing them. How on earth do I make quota every month? Oh yeah - I don't know any PD that actually has quotas. Just another reason for people to justify why they got a ticket...."had to fill his quota because I certainly wasn't doing anything wrong"![]()

i'd agree. the officer wrote you for what he saw - speeding. what actually happened is what you go over in front of the magistrate/judge.
honestly, the magistrate hears BS stories all day & probably won't cut you loose. however, a judge likely will if you show up on time, explain the story as you did earlier in the thread, and are respectful of all the parties involved during the hearing. it's really not hard to convince someone that there was a distracted driver (no way!!!) likely reading/texting/calling/doing makeup behind you. hope it works out!

I'm not going to argue with you, I've already sorted out my differences with one officer on the board I'm not going to do it again. Regardless this officer was quite pleased with himself to write the citation, he didn't think twice about it. So obviously this guy was a lot different than you guys.
I can't speak for other cops and/or their rational for writing a ticket. Maybe he was a "bad" one, was having a bad day, daughter was killed by someone on a sportbike that was the same make and model as you. I don't know and I don't care. I don't care if you got a ticket or not and I don't care if you fight it and win or lose. None of this matters to me. I do get a little pissy when other people make statements like "all cops sit around and do nothing all day" or "all cops do is harass taxpayers". I hate stereotypes in general (despite when Kham thinks, I actually some very good friends that are asian) and hate being lumped into them. Just like everyone. I don't think that I'm a bad cop but what do I know. Sportbikers hate the bad rep they get when someone rips a wheelie through Boston then runs from the cops and a bad news story goes out about how all sportbikers are bad people that run from the police.
Good luck with whatever happens.

I shot a guy once and a cop arrested me. What a dick.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
WTF, I know for a fact that most cops don't do shit all day most of the time. So next time the shit hits the fan call the fire department they will make all the bad things better.
Just explain to the judge that being shot out of a cannon will always be better than being squeezed out of a tube. That's why god made fast motorcycles, Bubba.
Maybe replace "Bubba" with "Your Honor" though. Sounds more professional-like.
Are you cop that sits around all day? Cause that would prove a point that you sat around all day. Funny though - I don't sit around all day and do nothing and I know for a fact that Highsider and JCBell don't either. So there's 3 for 3 here that don't sit around all day. So I put about as much weight in what you say as I do with Kham.
