Does anyone know how the Mass. RMV is about putting plates on motards? I have been looking around at the new 4 stroke enduro bikes like the WR450, CRF450, XR250,etc.
I don't want to spend the money on an overweight mushy 300lb. bike, as I've already been there way back when I had a DR350.
I'm thinking 250lb. woods bike that I can ride to work.Keeping the motard option just in case the man bans dirt bikes again.
It looks like the KLX250S is the only bike with modern suspension and engine that's sold as a dual purpose.
How about converting a used XR400 that never had a street reg. ?
Go buy a KTM and be done with it![]()

I read on tha internets that you can title pretty much anything with lights, horn, etc. and an 18 digit VIN in VT, and once title passes you can transfer to MA. Worth looking into I'd guess and some VT people on here may be able to shed more light?

The days of out-of-staters registering their toys in Vt are over. Any resident of Vt can easily convert their dirtbike following the local guidlines if they'd like![]()
Vin #s are 17 digi's![]()

basically if it says for competion use only the title/cert. of origin your screwed.
Ktm does not write this on they're cert. so your good to go, I had my ktm put on the road without any probs.
I have seen some dealers around sell, for example a yz450 and put a dealer sticker over the off road use only words on the cert.
good luck!![]()

Ok, now I think I get the KTM thing. How are the KTM's parts pricing and maintainance compared to the average Japanese bikes?
i have raced/rode jap dirt bikes all my life up until 2004. In 2001 my buddy got a ktm and it was amazing! They completely changed from the older model ktm's and are made with top notch parts an quality. I switched over in 2004 and ktm is the way to go.
back in the day ktms were hard to get parts for and exspensive, since about 2002 that is no longer the case. ktm parts are easy to get and for the most part the same or cheaper than jap bikes. They have really stepped up there efforts in past years, esp. in the states.
