Seems to be a common thread these days, hmm? I left for work at 8am friday morning, and from there to Boston to catch a flight to Philadelphia to visit my girlfriend for the weekend. After a nice weekend, I caught the (delayed) red-eye home, and when I arrived at 1:30 am monday morning I was treated to a delightful surprise. Somewhere over the weekend, some scumbags had come and lifted my 2000 ZX6E from it's usual spot in the parking lot. As if to add insult to injury, they left my '87 EX500 but they STOLE THE COVER OFF OF IT. Yeah, that's right. Apparently the bike was worth less to them than the cover. Ok, so the paint's a little scratched, but c'mon guys, it's a nice bike.
Also gone from the lot was a 199X Superhawk, also stolen sometime this weekend according to the police report. Remaining were what looked to be a brand new sportster, a 200X bandit, and an '03 R1. Little strange that they would yank my 6E and leave the R1...I know the R1 has an alarm system, so maybe that has something to do with it.
So yeah, I'm pissed off. I still have my EX500, it needs some brake work that I've been putting off, guess I'll get to that this weekend since I won't be riding. Insurance wheels are rolling, as soon as I find out how badly they're going to screw me and what time I can expect to receive my screwing, I'll be looking for a new (to me) bike. I'm thinking something late 90's to early 00's, fuel injected would be nice this time...really depends on how much I see from the insurance company...

On my only working two wheeled vehicleIf you're passing through Derry and see a dude in full motorcycle gear on a Haro V1 bicycle pouring out a 40 on the side of the road, you'll understand why.

with all the crashes and stolen bikes this year.... all I can predict is insurance rates to go sky high!....
Maybe I should park my bike down your way?
Just like owning a nice car..... nobody has any respect for anything nice.

Sorry about the bike theft.

14" Biceps. So what if I am weak...
Sorry man but if I parked my bike in the driveway for a month with the keys in it, I wouldn't worry. Didn't you harp on NB peeps saying it wasnt safe there? Sounds like you got issues..

K, lets do a test.I parked my bike in the driveway for a month with the keys in it.
Park the bike in a parking lot or middle of your driveway for a month with the keys in it...

The NB violent crime statistics are correct, I did not make them up. The facts speak for themselves. Take it from someone with a BS in Electrical Enigineer who graduated in top 10% of class, I am not dumbDidn't you harp on NB peeps saying it wasnt safe there?
$40 says it gets stolen, anyone else want to bet??[]

Huhwha? Where, exactly, am I supposed to park my bike? It won't fit through the window and it's a bitch to get down the stairs, so the dining room is out. Plus it'd leave black marks on the linoleum. And I'd worry about getting spaghetti sauce on the tires, which would really decrease traction.Originally posted by jsven007
Yup, when I want my bike to get stolen, I will just park it in my driveway for a few days. If you left it in a parking lot, did you honestly think it would not get stolen?
Honestly though, were you really surprised?
If I parked my bike in my driveway for a week, I know very well it would disappear.
Like many people in this world, I don't own a garage. I live in a safe, friendly community in southern new hampshire, and park my bike in a well lit parking lot, on the top level, in view of the condo complex where I live. I lock my steering. I don't leave the keys in the bike. Parking lots are for parking. That's why I park my bike there. I wouldn't park my bike in a stealing lot, maybe it was mislabelled?
Shit happens, yeah, but I get kinda pissed off thinking that I'm not entitiled to a reasonable expectation of safety and courtesy from the other members of my community.
As for what I'm going to do when I get a new bike...well I don't know. I could get a disc lock, but I'm just gonna forget to take it off and fuck up my front wheel. I suppose I could get a bigass chain and chain the bike to something, like maybe my other bike. This would work, maybe. It'd be kind of a PITA...I could get an alarm, but I've got a feeling all that would do is force the thieves to charge the battery before they take it out for a spin802.11 based wireless surveillance? GPS tracking system? Shotgun with a rope tied around the kickstand?
Next time just put a sign that says "$8,000 was never so easy to steal." Hehehe.I can come to your house while you're away, smash all your windows, and steal your computer. Should you have expected that for not constructing your windows out of Lexan?
You are entitled to safety and courtesy, but I live in the REAL world, and in this world things get stolen!! So, next time just park your new bike in the same lot, lock the steering, and don't worry about it. I won't worry about it either.Shit happens, yeah, but I kinda take offense to your telling me that I'm not entitiled to a reasonable expectation of safety and courtesy with regards to the other members of my community.![]()

I had a bigass chain around my motorcycle in N. Dartmouth, and I parked it right in front of my dorm room. Bigass chain worked for me.
The easier bike theft is, the more bike theives there will be. The more bike theives there are, the more jackasses that will be looking to steal my bike!! (and everyone elses)
14" Biceps. So what if I am weak...
Its also has to do with model, I'm sure GSXR's and R6s get stolen more than SVs and ZRXs. I leave my keys in it hoping someone would steal it.![]()

Why bother to sell a motorcycle when you can just leave it in your driveway overnight for a few weeks and let it get stolen.
The insurance company will pay you, and you NEVER have to deal with the Want Ad or prospective buyers.![]()

They attempted to steal my 98 YZF600, but unfortunately something happened and they left it, only to be found to me damaged. It would have made life so much easier if they got away with it... Better luck next time bike thieves. It will be available to steal again next week!! Go ahead make my day.
I tucked my dirt bike in a storage unit so they cant take that, if they do get it from there I have inssurance covering it in there!

Reading this, I thought of the perfect anti theft device:
Simply tape a syringe on each handlebar grip, needle exposed, pointing towards rider, with a note in that empty space just below the keys that says:
"Protected by HEPATITIS Virus, want to take the chance?"
If I were a thief and I saw that, I'd be like, "Fuck that"

That sucks. Hope the insurance pays well. I'd be bummed if I lost my 9R. I really like the color and they only made it one year.
There's a group of guys in England that put nice bikes out as bait in high crime areas. They wait, in a van nearby, for a thief to attempt to steal the bike . Once the thief give it a go, these guys pounce on him, drag him into the van an spend some time beating him sensless and torturing him. When they are done the let him go but tell him to spread the word not to steal bikes. I love this idea and bet the local police would turn a blind eye if they found out about such bigilante justice. The ACLU would flip though.
Anyone got a van to use ?

If anyone wants my bike , they are more than welcome to it. There is one catch to it though, just make sure you have a good surgeon to stitch up the .357 holes all over your body. JUst don't understand why some Mofos think they have the right to come and take something another man has worked tirelessly for.![]()
