So I was getting ready to go out for a quick ride yesterday to warm up my chain so I could lube it up, and my Arai slipped out of my hand and tumbled down some concrete stairs and bounced across my driveway. It looks like shit, I broke one vent button, and the whole air diffuser/ top vent system is coming off now.
So where has anyone found a great price on either Arai, Suomy, or Shark helmets? Are there any good discount places online? I need a helmet, have been spoiled by all the bells and whistles of my Arai, and don't feel much like spending $500 again on a helmet.
My vote is for Americade. I bought my Arai over there 2 years ago as a new,"last year's model" from one of the vendors and if I remember right, I paid about $300 for it.

Americade is a large motorcycle rally that takes place in Lake George NY from June 6th-11th. Americade
It's essentailly geared towards the "touring" biker as opposed to the cruiser crowd, and they have a pretty damn big vendor area where you can find quite a bit.

I wouldn't buy online unless you know that particular model is going to fit well...gotta try it on.

I have heard many a people having great luck with him. Slava is the name he goes by.
These prices were from a bit ago, so I dont know if they are still good.
Tell him you got it from cbrf41999 from sportbikesforum.com
I've got stuff from Slava... I wouldn't necessarily recommend him, but he does have good prices.
I've also gotten stuff from parts411.com and gotten great prices there too.
I think I got my Spec 1R there for $320 shipped last year? Something around there anyway.
That price for the RX7 is good... I've been eyeing them as well.

I got a closeout Arai Signet GT for like $320 at Brockton Cycle last year. It may be worth giving them a call because the stuff they have in their showroom doesn't always reflect what's online. Case in point - I just went down there and picked up a 1pc fieldsheer for $300. (woo hoo - i have a power ranger suit now!)
well, I'll start this post off by explaining that I am very impulsive when it comes to stuff like this. I went over to Seacoast Sport Cycle to try on their Suomy lids so I could figure out my size and ended up buying one there. In my defense, my Arai is pretty trashed and I'm doing a long ride tomorrow, so I used that as justification for buying it there.
Its a silver Spec-1R Extreme Bostrom Replica. The shield is a bit squidly, but I think I will like it. Its hard to tell from the pics, but its actually a "translucent Opalescent Iridium finish". From inside the helmet, there is only the slightest blue tint at the bottom of the screen and the rest is actually completely clear. In other words, its a clear shield for me, but its reflective on the outside. Pretty cool I think.
Thanks for the replies guys. I hope others can use this info for themselves.
Nice lid...
I would suggest ear plugs though.

For good pricing on Arai's, check ebay and look for the seller named Powersportscloseouts (I think that's his seller name)
Great deals.
Dang! You got shocks, pegs... lucky! You ever take it off any sweet jumps?
that's a sweet looking lid, sir.
How much was Jesse gettin for them now? I am plannin on gettin one this fall/winter.Originally posted by A996S
Thanks. I'm quite partial to it myself. You will get a better look at it in the morning![]()
Well I mean, I've always been more of a solid helmet kinda guy - but that design may have swayed me a bit. The Bayliss replica looks nice too...I'll try to remember tomorrow how you like the fit, noise, weight, etc. after a day of riding vs the araiOriginally posted by A996S

Sorry to hear about the bad luck with the
helmet. I just bought a new one today.
Must have been the weather causing me to get
wacky with the credit card !
Well my old one was just about 5 years old.
And the saleperson gave me a deal as he bought one for himself in the wrong size.
Now everytime I take it off and on I think about the time I let mine old one drop off my mirror...
Its an Arai Blue Hayden GP model. But Just now I see the same on EBAY for a bit less ($449). But for now walking out the store with it is a safer more immediate good feeling.

Thats the same model that I punted down my steps and across my driveway, though its red. I should tell you, don't drop that helmet directly on the top center vent. It will disintegrate before your eyesOriginally posted by akira700

you should like that helmet. If I didn't drop it, I would use it for quite some time more. Very comfortable.
Try this guy:
Erwin
motogpslider@yahoo.com
He sells Arai and Shark at something like 50 % off of list.
He contacted me after I lost an auction on an Arai helmet on Ebay.
Heres what he sent to me:
Hello, I just noticed that you lost the bid on this top-of-the-line helmet. If you are interested, I have the the same Brand New Corsair Gibernau replica in a size Large (with a clear shield...$775 price tag still on it), that I was thinking about selling on E-Bay, since I am not allowed to sell to you directly. If you are interested, I will post the helmet for auction with a $375 Buy-It-Now option just for you, so I would not need to watch it for days. If not now, then I will post it during the summer during riding season. You can bid with confidence, since I have a 100% feedback rating (buyer and seller). Contact me if you are interested. Regards, -MotoGPslider
I at first thought it was a scam, but he came through like a champ. Excellent service!
