This sort of sucks.
More Marines died on bikes last year than in Iraq combat.

Navy too...
There was a write up in the NY Times about this as well. Looks like something might get done about it. I just hope it isn't restrictive type stuff.

Geee thats not too against sport bikes is it? In the right hands a sportbike is safer than any other type on the road.

when is motorcycling actually portrayed positively in the media?
Told my g/f about this... her brother's a Marine... who bought a GSXR1k as his first bike...
I have a nephew who is a Marine and as soon as his platoon got back from the sandbox he and about 7 to 10 marines all ran out to some dealer in SC, and bought Busa's for their first bikes. I had to talk my nephew into getting a gsxr 600, so far only one of his boys have died so I place the blame on the dealers for send these first time riders to their graves. but again this is America and money talks.
I think it has more to do with the "I'm a Marine and I'm invincible" mentality....that and the large sum of money that they have accrued from being over in the sand box. They come home and buy the fastest sport bike that's on the market....but they don't know how to ride it.
If this war had occured in the late 60's, the media could have done the same story about Hemi Cudas, Camaros and Chevelles, etc. It's not the bike's fault their owners can't ride.
