Brand new....less than 130miles...was in a crash with my new FZ6
I'm OK, not physically hurt thanks to my gear.
I was on my way to motomarket around noon and a women came out of a Trader joes plaza and did not see me! If I had swerved I would have been hitting traffic head on. So, I slammed on the brakes front and rear - locked both (I think) and hit her car straight on. I was going the speed limit around 30-35mph and I must of hit her at 20mph or so. I walked away with pretty much no damage to me. I think the bike is totaled.
I am very bummed....At least no one was hurt...I use the bike daily for my commute.
Dani
what kind of gear did you have?
Whoa gotta watch them pulling out like that, was it the one on washington st in w.newton?

I was wearing my MotoGP textile pants wich got an abrasion on that's not a big deal, but surely would have put a hole through regular jeans. A Cortech HRX jacket, Setup boots that both have a scuff on, BMW winter Pro gloves and HJC helmet. No head contact, so helmet is fine.
This was a 61yo woman in an older station wagon and I could swear she and I made eye contact, but I guess not....we just made metal-metal contact
I wonder how quickly I'll get a check...
Dani
LMAO!! That would make all the difference in the world!
That sux about your new bike. Crashing at 20mph is plenty fast enough to land a rider in the hospital, so Im glad you were able to walk away from it. If she pulled out in front of you, you legally had the right of way. Her ins. co. will pay up. You shouldn't have to pay a deductible in cases where the other party is found to be 100% at fault, like your case appears to be. Was that the Trader Joes in Newton?

That sucks....but given the outcome, its just a speedbump in the road of life...
Good on you for wearing the gear....

TJ's in acton, I was literally a 1-2 miles away from MotoMarket...she pulled infront of me. There was no doubt in her mind, my mind, or the police that it was her fault.
still...no bike for a while...
Yes, I'm glad I'm ok. I am a physician, so I have an appreciation for what ould have happened.
Dani
that sux man atleast you walked away.
Sorry to hear....Great that you are okay.
So....what is the next bike?
BTW - your motocycle dealer is going to love you. Not too often that someone buys two bikes in one year.

Yeah, I loaded up on some Rx strength motrin as I anticipate some whole buddy soreness (already set in). I'll be fine - can still operate is needed tonight.
As for the next bike, not sure. I was happy with the FZ6. It wa a hard decision for since I was also looking at the GSX650F which is the same price. Most of my riding is in town. So, now sure...maybe I'll ge the same bike, maybe I'll try something else. I only had the brand new FZ6 fro two weeks and rode about 150miles on it. I'll wait and see how much money I'll get from the insurance company - hopefully enough to replace with a new one.
Dani
Great idea! well, I'm too honest to do that for a couple of $$...eventhough I am not a big fan of insurance companies..
yikes, glad to hear you are ok
that SUUUUUUUUUCKS!
Glad you're alright, bro.

Sounds like you did everything you could to avoid the accident. Was the FZ your first bike? Seems like FZ6 and NESR members don't get along.

Yeah, well, I was hoping to make it to MotoMarket, but never did. The accident was like 2 miles away. My wife offered to go there when she picked me up, but I was just too shaken.
The FZ-6 is my third bike. I used to ride a Honda CX650C for a little while. Then, had a 8 year break and reintro'd on a Ninja 500 this last August. I put about 3k miles on the Ninja and decided to upgrade. Maybe, i should have repeated the MSF course...don't know...but, I have been riding almost daily for the last 6 months back and forth to work through Boston. Who knows...I h ate being a Monday morning quarter back...
Now, thinking if I should get another FZ or try something else like the new GSX650F. I l ike the upright riding positions..
Dani
Don't beat yourself up. Someone turning out in front of you is something no one can protect themselves from. It does not sound like MSF would have helped. It is just shit luck anyone of us could have had. I/We are really happy you didn't seriously hurt.
BTW - I'm biased, but check out the speed or street triple. Upright seating, light bike, great engine, comfortable, etc.
