Ray backed out of the trip for whatever reason and now:
kcotter (keith) is stuck in marlboro with his girlfriend and 5 bikes bound for VIR.
The trailer wiring is suspect and the lights dont work. Can anyone help out? 5 people are going to be very disappointed when their bikes
cant get to VIR.
keiths phone number is 802-779-4455
Thanks again Ray-Ray. Now it's MY problem. 8 people are now fucked because of you.
You knew two days ago you werent going and you cant text me?
need someone with basic wiring skill to fix the trailer.
What exactly is wrong with it degs? No power to anything? What type of trailer?
I can get my son out there tomorrow, he's trained as an electrician, Though he doesn't work in the field anymore, he does help out with issues like this. I also have a bit of experience in the matter because I had a trailer that was prone to ground faults.
Someone send me a PM with contact info and we'll be there with Fluke meters and tools. Is Keith the right person to call in the morning? I was confused because that's a Vermont number.

I got a set of wire strippers, some 20 gauge wire, connectors, tape, and circuit tester.
I have very little experience wiring though, but I can be there in an hour if needed.
Hey everyone thanks for the offers of help. Really shows what a great community this forum is. Ppl offering help at midnite on a Saturday is unreal. As of now it's under control. But myself and Derek are not the happiest people

Personally speaking, i dont think its in any control. I'm not sure why I'm responsible for this. Now its my responsibility?
I say get help there and fix the wiring is a better option that us taking our trailer an hour north to go south again with a trailer with no lights.
i say get help there asap or early morning. its a 12-13 hour drive. leaving at 10am is even ok.
I'm up and 1/2 hour away. Not sure what I could do to help, but willing to try. I have tools/ will travel.

i'm up. if it's standard 4-pin trailer wiring i could probably rewire the entire thing in 20 minutes. would need to make a quick pit at work for toolage.
could probably be in marlboro before 1 if i left right now.

What's the difference between a bolt and a screw?
First you screw, then you bolt.

Good luck man!
I can be there in the morning, I'm 10 minutes away in Hudson. I was a DC electrician for 8 years, I'll bring my gear, just send me an address.

Me: Well you're not supposed to sit on your balls!
Just saw the address at the top, I'll be there as well in the morning.

So, is it fixed yet? If not I have the tools & supplies & I'm a electronics technician, I can repair it if you need me.
OK, I'm up and can hop in the car if needed.
If not, here's some tips:
About 70% of trailer light problems relate to poor connections. The sockets in the connectors get corroded. The fix is to replace the connectors, but you can try scratching the corrosion off with a thin, sharp knife or similar, then fill the socket with dielectric grease. You should have the dielectric grease in the sockets anyhow, whether the sockets are corroded or not.
Then there's about 25% of the time that a ground point has gotten broken or corroded. Pull the connection apart (usually just a sheet metal screw holding an eye terminal to the frame), wire-brush the eyelet terminal and frame clean, goop a little dielectric grease, reconnect.
Only 5% of the time would the wiring itself have corrosion inside under the insulation to the point that it won;t carry current any longer, but it can happen.
Those are the things to look for. I can be there in about 40 minutes with Fluke meter, wire brush, screwdrivers, te3rminals, soldering iron, and dielectric grease and other shit if you need me.
My number is edited out
