Degsy, There are surely good reasons to downshift leaned over in a corner. T11 is a great example. Most people roll off the gas, stand the bike up, shift, then tip it in again. That is the slow way through. The fastest experts are on the gas so deep into the entrance for 11 that there is no time for that extra dancing around to shift. I am knee down for the downshift (or just about). The shift has to happen late because I'm really high in the revs and I cannot bang the shift the instant I roll off or it will step out too far.

Other reasons include traffic, errors in braking, etc. It's a great skill to have in the bag.

Learn to race on a 125 and the possibilities of all manner of shifting scenarios will come to light.

Do you really think some people are ADDING a turn?
Or do you think it's plausible that maybe some people say "11a & 12" instead of "12, 12a"?

    Are you REALLY this confused?

I'm not confused on what turn is what. I'm confused on how some of you got it wrong.

To me it makes more sense as 12 and 12a because 11 is a left that isn't immediate, while 12 and 12a require a quick flop, which makes it more like a chicane.

this. In addition, the 12 flagger stands immediately AFTER the apex of 11, making that chicane all turn 12.

Yeah I agree that it probably makes more sense, i'm just saying the way I had learned it. Personally, i'd prefer 11, 12, 13. But really it doesn't matter....at all....for anything.

Haha, well, since it matters.... I just looked at the fishtail track map and they label it 11, 11a, 12. They were the first group I did a trackday with so I guess it stuck. Not sure of the official LRRS stance on the issue.

Hey Brett, after reading a couple of your posts I think I see a way you could easily shed 5+ seconds from your lap times.

Bwahaha!! All y'all could likely go faster if you'd stop worrying about what to call the turns!

i dont see the concern about downshifting while leaned over. i see racers trailbraking with the rear way into the apex
