Ummm yeah. Cops cracking down on bikes in MA, I hear? Tell me about it. My speedometer cable got disconnected today on my first ride of the year, mind you after spending 2 days at a local shop to have new tires installed and get it ready and "safe" for the new season with a pre-ride inspection. We get pulled over in Chester MA, they clocked me at 50 in a 35 zone, just before entering Chester on those nice tight twisties on Rte 20. I didn't think I was going 50...it felt like I was almost stopped. I showed him my speedo cable, he gave me and my riding partner a warning. My partner got *extremely* lucky because just before he was about to pass that same cop at much higher speed than me, someone in a car waved at him to slow down...then he saw the cop. I can't even recount how many cops we saw on Rte 8 and 20 near Otis, Chester, Huntington, you name it...they are out on all of our favorite roads!! I hope it's just because it's the beginning of the riding season, otherwise if they keep on chasing after bike riders, we're in for a boring time...![]()

out in western ma, it seems the cop enforcement has gone up literally 600%-800% over the past 3-4mo.
i've been at uMass Amherst for the past 4 years, commuting home to Reading reasonably often (probably averaging once every 3 weeks over my entire career here), and up until the start of 08, it was a rarity to see a single LEO over the course of commuting both ways.
since 2008, i've literally seen 5-6 cops over the course of a trip a handful of times, and very frequently seen 1-3 on a single way home (87.6mi). i've also gotten 2 speeding tickets in the past 6 weeks (4wks apart, first time i've been ticketed since getting my license -- first was in the car, second was on the bike, both were 70 in a 55 (which, IMHO, is entirely reasonable for a cruising speed when there's absolutely no traffic))
hurray, strikethrough!

I saw a lot of law enforcement this week up north of Boston, in fact I was nearly hit by a statie when he jumped out of his hiding place and decided to cross three lanes of traffic without bothering to check if anyone was there. Thank goodness for track day brake training.
He stopped a Harley in front of me but I'm not really sure why... he was traveling with the flow of traffic and I'm pretty sure none of us were particularly over the limit.

That's what the guy at the inspection station at the other shop I went to yesterday after the ride told me. He said they had to take the wheel off the bike to install the new tires therefor had to disconnect the speedo cable. It was not reconnected properly apparently, causing it to disconnect and drag on the ground. He said I got lucky it didn't get caught up in my wheel and send me flying off the bike.![]()
Spicy, you're absolutly right. I've been going up riding or driving on those roads quite often over the past 5-6 years, I think I saw cops maybe once or twice. Now they are everywhere.

I am glad they are out in force.Sorry to those of you who get/got stopped.
This early in the season it is a good time to remind people to keep it under control.
Don't ya think?

Just saw on the news...that the Staties on the Pike have been issuing a far higher number of tickets over this time period of last year. They issued a statement denying that raising more revenues was the reason. Uh-huh. Last month there was a report that flat out said Staties would be out in force on the Pike, targeting speeders. At least they issued a warning!
don't you people have anything better to do on a beautiful saturday morning than bitching about cops on nesr at the crack ass of dawn???:
I'm on that everyday....and there are two new Charger Staties...one
with the gun and the other pointing at the cars to pull over.
Typically sitting at the base of the hill (before Shirley) heading West on Rt 2
or at the top of the hill heading east...I just heard that on the Pike
tickets have gone up 12% year over year....that's an estimated
4000 additional tickets on the pike alone.
they say that they aren't writing tickets solely to increase state
revenue...pffft....right

So what exactly about this makes you think they are targeting bikes?
You were traveling nearly 50% higher than the posted limit.
As for the LEO's in my town... I won't even comment.

Haha...they were out in the SAME spot today, same SUV, same cop. Not sure if he recognized me from yesterday, but even without speedo, I was taking it real easy so he had no reason to come after me. Both my husband and I were keeping it low today on Rte 20, just a nice easy pace to go back home after the STN ride this morning. I think the cold ride all morning numbed us for the rest of the day...lol

A statie pulled up behind me on my way into work and flipped on his cherries and blipped at me twice as I was traveling down the left side of the pike... he continued to start pulling me over and then negged on his decision and went racing off down the pike to an accident.
I was keeping it below 80, which typically works well on the pike. I guess they're just cracking down? Either way, I'm going to keep it a few degrees colder on the road this summer. It'll give me motivation to finally get a hitch and trailer so I can get up to Loudon this summer!
On 495 north next to rt.110 Methuen and on 213 I saw 4 State Police cars pulling people over. And two of which were sports bikes.![]()
