no big deal, I was making a left hand turn at a light, prolly going about 20-25mph, it's froggy, drizzly, rain here today, temps are mid 30's, SV has been sputtering a bit, carb icing? Anyway, I was leaned over quite a bit, new pavement and some puddles about 1/2" deep. next thing I know, a tug on my helmet, my radar detector speaker chord snapped, the SV is sliding over to the edge of the road, no serious damage, broke my brand new KLR handguard:-(, toe bar snapped of shifter, road rash on my bar end mirror (matches the road rash on the other side from ny 70mph lowside a year and a half ago), a barely noticable skuff on my leather saddlebag and road rash on the thermostat for my electric vest (vest & thermostat still work fine).
A friend of mine was in a truck right behind me, he jumped out to help, we picked the bike up, I rode it to adjacent parking lot and checked stuff out. I had a spare shifter in saddlebags but decided to ride 15 miles home without changing it, with GP shifting it was easy to shift up thru gears, but I got proficient at downshifting by the time I got home, oh yea, I stopped at my dealer in the way home and ordered new handguard
I'll prolly have time to swap my shifter today

Glad to hear you're ok Randy... take it easy.... pretty soon you should be trading the SV for a snomobile up there......![]()
Only you would have a spare shifter in the saddlebags.
Glad to hear you're ok.

Ah.....the joys of a nekkid bike. Glad you're okay. But it is hard to take you seriously when you're standing there laughing when you're telling me about it. And Degsy's right: Only you would have an extra shift lever in your side bags...![]()
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
I will need to buy a new shifter, the broken one, (one I got it off) is beyond repair. theonly reason I had a spare shifter is cause I had a one lengthened but cause I didn't want any down time in riding, I bought a second shifter to have the modification done on. I also keep a spare clutch lever (my original one that the ball broke off), I been thinkin of picking up a spare brake lever.
I'm riding with Randy from now on...
Sounds like he could build an entire extra bike with the parts he's planning on carrying in his saddlebags
Glad to hear that you're OK
