Ok I let someone barrow my leathers. It is a two piece IXS leather racing suit I have had for a few years. When new I paid $800.00. I never have crashed in them. So they had normal wear on them. Today the friend crashed at a track day in them. There is scuff marks on the paints and jacket in several areas as well as stitch separation in two spots. One in the paints and one in the jacket. What do you all think the he should offer or due to make things right?

Borrowed suit... He should buy it or repair it to the same condition he borrowed it in.

You let a friend borrow your leathers to go to a track day? What did you expect to happen? Its not like he went out of his way to crash and scratch your leathers. IMO he should pay to have them checked out and have any stitches repaired. As for the scratched stop being such a POON and get the fuck over it. If he was a good enough friend to let him borrow them then he should be a good enough friend who can buy you a beer and laugh over it.

i'm actually probably doing a track day in a few weeks with a borrowed suit. But its an older already crashed in suit.
I'd just make sure the damage got repaired, a scuff is a scuff

If I crashed in a suit I borrowed from someone I would offer to buy it at an agreed price. It's only fair. When it comes to bikes you should be prepared to purchase anything you borrow off someone if you wreck.

Dont ever lend something out and expect NOTHING to happen to it. Shit happens. I have broken other peoples stuff, people have broken my stuff.
If it were me and someone crashed in my stuff they damn well would have been a good friend and I would be just fine with it long as they were still usable.

Was there no talk of this beforehand?
It's always easy to decide this stuff before it happens.
Break it you buy it. That is my policy.

First of all it was a friends son who barrowed the suit. He would not have been able to do the track day if he did not have it. Second I am very happy he did not get hurt. He did learn that one needs to have the proper gear when riding on the street or track.
I am not looking to get full price for the suit and Im sure there will be some agreement when we talk tomorrow. As far as talk before hand we did not. I am a person if I damage someones stuff I will make ammends as all people should.
I just was not in the market to buy a suit at this time.
I completely agree with the break it you buy it but I also ONLY lend things that I can afford to replace or KNOW that the person I am lending it to would replace it. Call it a lesson learned. Good luck with your friends son it is a crappy situation all around but shit happens.

I just looked up "barrow" in the dictionary... I'm confused. What do scuffed up leathers have to do with a male hog castrated before sexual maturity?![]()
I'd try & make this post useful, but I got nothin... hope the guy makes it right. I've learned not to loan out shit to people that I wouldn't really mind seeing get broken/damaged. And I definitely don't loan shit out to people that wouldn't make it right if they broke/damaged my shit.
(Speaking of which, I'm still not sure what the hell posessed me into loaning Schleppy my Tuono... THAT is fuckin TRUST right there)

so these leathers were made in alsaka? I am confused....
I say $400, split the original cost of the suit.
Any body have a nice, used suit they want to sell? (What size are you Eric?)

Chicks dig scratch/scuff marks...
Your friend should give you a dictionary for crashing your suit.
meh... They are leathers, they are for crashing. I don't know the quality of yours but my vanson suit has countless crashes on it and is fine. IMO the scuffs are just part of being race/crash gear. I have loaned out my bike, my leathers, whatever in the past. I expect to get the stuff back serviceable, cosmetics are a wash on race gear to me. I'd expect him to have any necessary repairs in stitching done, and that'd be it.
OTOH, if I crashed anyone else's stuff I would make it better than when I got it. I won't ride someone else's bike without accepting that worst case I have to buy it, and anything I break is replaced w/ new stuff right away. I guess I expect my shit to be crashed so it's nbd to me, but I would not return something borrowed in lesser condition than I got it.
If you offered the leathers, it's on you. If he asked, it's on him.
Based on your posts, there doesn't appear to be any agreement to anything prior to the leathers becoming damaged.
IMO, the "right" thing is for your friend to repair the busted seams and you both learn something from this. Not sure what else you expect since there weren't any terms agreed upon between either of you.
I'd say come up with a fair price between the two of you, and sell him the leathers. Especially if he can repair and use them again.

Fix whats not safe...live with the cosmetic stuff....
one would assume your friendship is more important than some leather scuffs. Check the bottom of your shoes. They're worn, right? That's because they're doing what they're supposed to do. Protect the bottom of your feet. Scuffs on your leathers? Same thing....

I lent a very expensive, sexy dress to a friend and it was completely ruined by the dry cleaner that she brought it to. Got some $ from the cleaners but no where near the full amount...gotta suck it up and move on. It's only green paper...friendships are worth a lot more than that.
IMO if you allowed him to borrow the suit, you accept responsibility for anything that happened to it, ESPECIALLY if there was no beforehand agreement. He should get the little things fixed and you should live with the scuffs. If you lent it out with the thought NOTHING would happen to it...then...uhhh...I got nothing 'cuz that's a ridiculous idea. It's the track. It's gonna get beat up.If anyone asks about the scuffs, tell them you fought off a warrior ninja.
