So I recently purchased the iJet so that I can store my ipod in my jacket and attach a remote to my triple tree. I got this idea from an R6 forum and people say that it worked great. I have had it for over a week now and I am 50/50 on it. The remote works great when nothing is obstructed, but when I put the ipod in my jacket and attach the remote to my triple tree, I have to lean into the remote to get it to work properly. This thing is supposed to be able to transmit signals from 100 ft. away! I know the leather obstructs the signal, but I didn't think it would this much. Does anyone have any experience with the iJet and suggest a better setup?
Here is some info on the iJet:
ABT iJet for iPod nano | iLounge
Quick summary of pros and cons:
Pros: A hybrid iPod nano accessory combining a highly protective case, FM transmitter, and RF remote control into a single package, available in either black or white versions. Remote stows into case’s back when not in use, provides access to on-iPod radio tuning up close or from a distance, and allows for iPod control from a reliable distance of around 50 feet. Unlike Infrared remotes, doesn’t require line-of-sight between base and remote in order to connect to the iPod, and can be used indoors from a room away.
Cons: Quirky remote design is less intuitive than we prefer. Though the base has a bottom Dock Connector port for charging, audio output, and synchronization, remote’s volume controls only work through the iPod’s headphone port, requiring you to connect a second cable - not as good of a remote implementation as in recent dedicated iPod docks we’ve tested. If purchased only for FM transmitter features, more expensive than our top-rated options by a fair margin.![]()
I just put the ipod in my chest pocket and feel around
for the buttons and hope i don't hit the menu button.
I had thought about the iJet but never got around to it.
Have you thought about putting the ipod in a tank bag?
i was wondering about putting the ipod in a tank bag- what if you go down? isn't there a risk of seriously fucking up your ears? Maybe it will disconnect from the ipod first so it doesn't pull the earphones out.

I usually just keep it in my pants pocket face up so i can press the buttons..
If you have the touch one though you can't really do that too easily.

This is what I use:
Monster Cable -- MonsterŽ iEZClick™ Remote Control for iPodŽ
Until it felt like leaving my left handguard around 1__mph, it was the best thing since sliced bread. I found them (now) new unopened on ebay for 30$ now and you bet there is another on it's way to me. When I bought my last one they were about 60$ still.
Im currently using one of these:
Amazon.com: Scosche IPNRFC Wireless Car RF Remote for iPod: Electronics
and it works well. Range is definitely better than the Monster deal, but the mounting method bugs me. The Monster I could clip places (well, I'll be rethinking the 'where' of that now) and it just hung out. This thing you need to strap to a bar or similar.
edit: Both of these have an ipod in my tankbag or jacket pocket, or passenger jacket pocket, and a remote mounted to the handlebar, or shoved in passenger pocket. Moral of the story is if the shit is good enough to transmit through me, I'm sure it will have no toruble reaching yours wherever you put it.
for the record...I bought the (DLO) bigger brother to the one that you have there, and I hated it and returned it the day I bought it, for the same reasons you mention. I actually thought they shipped it with dead batteries or something, replaced em, and after about a 40 minute ride still wanted to smash the pos with my fist. It was letting 'some' of the commands get through, and its really annoying when it lets you pause, but then takes a nap on resume.
jus keep my ipod in my pocket and press the buttons by feel

Yeah, I've memorized my nano's controls through my commuting jacket too, so the remote isn't as much of a necessory and works well. I hate moving my hands around like that while riding though.
I have found the case to be helpful since its easier to find where the controls are if I put it in my pocket. The only issue is if I want to change the volume...its pretty much impossible to do so in my pocket. I may just sell the iJet on Ebay and look into the Monster one since someone says that it will work thru the jacket.
Yeah, works through mine with no issue. Though I am starting to wonder if the location of your remote might be having something to do with this...these are all RF remotes, and if placing the remote right onto your triple tree (big chunk of metal) maybe it's reducing it's effective range?). Have you tried the ijet away from the metal?
When I tried it, it wasn't near metal and had same intermittent issues, but...just making a suggestion before you ditch it totally. Frustrating to spend good coin and have it be completely displeasing.
