Solid all-around bike, comfortable and fast. With suspension setup they can easily hang w/ sportbikes on the road. I don't think there are any significant issues with the 1st gen. Not sure about price since '05 leftovers must be pretty rare. For comparison, low mileage 2006s (the 2nd generation, newer style) are going for about 5500-6000?

Gen1's (2001-2005)...solid all around machine. If you're hell bent on that one, fine, but you can easily save yourself 2500 bux or more if you find a nice, lower-mileage one.
No issues to speak of and there are at least two people I know of with over 100,000 miles logged on the original mill.
45,000-ish on mine and the only time I had to push it was because the starter button contacts were corroded a bit and I couldn't get the engine to turn over. That was the only time.
The Gen2's (2006 and up) are nice but less touring and more sport....that and you need about 1000 bux to really unleash the power out of that mill. Yamaha limted the HP in the first 4 gears for whatever reason.
You should note that some of the frames on the Gen2's that have been known to crack due to lack of surface prep and/or welding speed being too fast. Yamaha is honoring frame replacement but it's a lotta BS to get there since there isn't an official recall on them.
A good friend of mine has had his for a few years now with no complaints.
He installed a pipe and some pod filters. He feels a difference.
He also installed some different bars with a slightly different height for more comfort.
He is also a fan of drag racing and his FZ1 has made over 100 passes with no issues.
back in 01 i bought the first one my dealer had. watched him un crate it. great bike, wish i had kept it. i will probably buy another some day.
Wasn't the 1st year of the 2nd generation really panned then they fixed it for the 2nd year

I don't understand ... you mean this bike started the new generation or they found that they had to change this style and did it the following year?
Do you guys think that this is a good deal? should I pounce on this or would a used one with a couple miles be a better deal? of course haven't found the used one but ... just having the pre buying bike jitters![]()
The FI on the 2006's in particular was reported to have what is known as "the snatch".....a huge lurch in the upper RPM range when rolling back into the throttle. Yamaha programmed the FI to essentially shut the injectors off when off the throttle, the snatch came from the first pulse of fuel when the injectors came back on.
I don't think it's a that good a deal. Sure, you get a zero mile machine but for a premium. The money you could save over a used one could be put into many other things......upgraded riding gear, Boston Moto trackdays, tires, suspension (although it is already fully adjustable front and rear)...the list is endless.Do you guys think that this is a good deal? should I pounce on this or would a used one with a couple miles be a better deal? of course haven't found the used one but
There plenty of used ones out there for great prices....but that's just my opinion.
You should also consider the credit
I am sure the stealership has some credit deals too then you will need full coverage ins

wow ... so i thought that this deal was good, ... tell me i shouldn't jump on this one ... 2008 red yamaha FZ-1 0 miles ... 7500???? please help ...
If that's the OTD price I'd say go for it.
Remember, the Gen2's are less touring-oriented than the Gen1's.
I had both the 1st gen and an '06 2nd gen FZ1. I had to have suspension work on the 1st gen. and upgrades to unlease the power on the 2nd gen.
Ivan sells a fix for the FI problem noted above. I liked the 2nd gen better than the !st.
