    Face shield color for rain?

I don't have a whole lot of experience riding in the rain, and I am trying to get geared up for a full race season this year. I wanted to know what face shield color gives you the best visibility in the rain. I heard of some riders using an amber on to improve contrast. Right now, I only have my clear one for bad weather.

Orange is the best for me, hands down.

Arai makes a yellow one that I find very good too.

Havent tried the orange that Paul mentions, but I find some
amber (orange brown) ones on ski goggles cut out a bit too much
light to see details under darker skies.

Go to Moto Mkt and try 'em all out.

Everytime you change a shield you introduce the chance of breaking or losing something. Plus, unless you plan to carry multiple shields, you also set your self up for having the wrong one when conditions change.

If you are talking about racing maybe it makes sense...having a high contrast rain shield in a race could probably lop 5 or 6 seconds off your lap time. (For me, I am almost 100% certain that my shield isn't the limiting factor in my perfomance...but I suck!)

On the street I use the clear visor all the time. If I really need to adjust visibility according to dramatic conditions I do have sunglasses which have changeable lenses. But it has been a long time since I have even bothered with that.

...but sometimes that money just burns a hole in your pocket until you transfer it to someone else...!!!

Re: Face shield color for rain?

It cuts time off my laps because I use a clear shield with an orange Fog City. It's THE combo. Flip your visor down in the garage and DON'T open it til the race is over.

High contrast offers much greater visual accuracy than maximum light. glare on rainy surfaces, shadows, and other tricks of light are hard to focus on and capture too much attention. Orange provides the most contrast of all the colors because it cuts out blue light, which is short in length and our eyes can't easily focus on it.

On the street it's like cheating! You can see into the shadows in the curves that would otherwise have you rolling off the gas. Allows me to ride much smoother.

Anyway, try it. in the full sun orange offers too much contrast for me and even though it cuts light, it makes things seem even brighter than they are.
