I got tired of trying to find just the right storage rack for the detachable stuff for my Street Glide, and I couldn't really find anything I liked for storing the stuff vertically. I prefer storing the stuff vertical due to the limited space in the garage and I wanted to make it as simple and as easy as I could.
Grabbed some perfed angle iron, some threaded rod, vinyl tubing and rounded up some odds & ends...
Tacked it up and dry fitted to figure out where I'd like it, which holes to use, how to space them, etc...
Simple assembly attached to studs in the garage...
Semi-finished rack with all my detachables mounted. I'll probably switch things around and put the tour pack up top. I'm a fuckin' clutz and I can totally see me dropping Big Shirl's backrest right on it. By using the top mounting rods for the tour pack, it'll also leave me room to add another mounting rod or two towards the bottom of the rack.
I still have a few things to touch-up & tweak, maybe even paint it once I have it sorted out the way I'd like. It probably ended up costing a bit more all together than a cookie cutter rack, but this seems much more versatile. And it's sure a fuckofalot better than storing them on the bedroom floor! Just ask Big Shirl!

Paint it orange and black, slap some bar and shield insignias on that and sell it for $299.
Nice little project!!! Extra storage is always a good thing
Ha! Harley used to have one available actually. And of course it was like, $250 or some shit. I shopped around and found them between $75.00 - $200.00+. The problem with those is they're all horizontal mounts. Those tour packs seem HUGE off the bike, and storing it horizontally simply takes up too much airspace. Going this route gives me a ton more space to move things around and store them in positions that work for me.
Meh, it's nothing like the stuff you've had going on! LOL!
I still gotta pick up a few bits of hardware to finish it up. If you look at the pic with just the four rods mounted, you can see I'm missing nuts on the inside of the rack on the top two threaded rods. Those are more crucial than I originally thought as it helps prevent the angle iron from bowing or flexing when snugging down the outside mounting nuts. Without those inside "lock nuts" I can't snug up those top two as much as I'd like.
I may also look into something with more of an outside diameter to go over the rods. There's a bit of play when items are mounted on 'em, but I'm not sure if that'll make it more difficult to get things on & off. I'm almost thinking copper pipe that will fit over the vinyl tubing just to snug up the accessories while they're mounted. I'm still trying to sort that out in the roadmap of a brain I have.

great job, I too struggled with that and finally tossed my tourpack, etc on wire shelves. I like your idea.
They're a total pain in the ass when not on the bike! The tour pack is just a cheapo Amazon special and it came in four separate boxes. I guess I just never really noticed how much room they'd take up when storing off the bike. I wanted to store them out of the way, but didn't want to use up what little shelf space I currently have. This should fit the bill for now.

The day I said, in frustration, "I know I've got the right nut here somewhere." and my wise-ass son said, "As opposed to the left one?"
