Hm, I kinda like the Motorcycle Den. It isn't an acronym, but kind of conveys a place where you or your bikes can hang out.

    Think S.P.A not SPA.

    Italian for Corporation.

Re: Doc's Shop. VT MOTORCYCLE SPA

Sounds fucking sweet, I have been starting a "shop" buy going in the opposite direction. I have taken in more bikes to work on than i have space for. To bad we are not closer we could work out a deal. I have 4 "winter project" bikes for clients, and 2 "fix it now" bikes for clients at my house. My bike are outside to make room in the carport for THEIRS! I will need garage space to work out of before winter comes. It does not come cheap.

Make sure you have enough space, it runs out fast!

GOOD LUCK DOC!! Let me know if i can help in any way!

I think spa should be all capitals, maybe even S.P.A. When I read the name I thought the "spa" was like detailing & service.

Spas make me think massage; therefore, I suggest the following:

    Doc's Motorcycle Spa

S.P.A is how it will be in the logo.

    Storage/Pit or Paddock or Privateer/Assistance

That'd be another reason to raise the partner rate I'd think.

I'd totally jump on that if I wasn't so far away. The storage rates are less than what I paid last year, and the member rate is a steal! I've got a friend in Winooski, I'll see if she knows any riders.

So for $100 a month, some guy off craiglist has access to all the bikes he can steal?

That's a good deal right there.

He has a good point. I'm sure Doc plans on checking character references and maybe even a credit check?

I am curious about how you'll manage security and especially tools.

No one will be in the shop without a partner there to supervise.

$100 bucks for a foot massage and beer? Make it a Guinness and don't forget to get between my toes and you have a deal!

Cool idea Doc! I like it.

I'm in a similar boat. I'd be all over Doc's idea (though the security thing would be a concern) but I have way too much invested in my own garage. Never ends does it? I finally got heat setup in mine a few months ago. Insulation is key! Now if I can just get the bathroom finished up I'll be rocking....

Good luck Doc, can't wait to see what you make of it! Ever want help with stuff let me know, I'd be glad to be of any assistance I can be!

I think it is a good idea, but here are some suggestions. Make the storage areas fenced it. Individual 4' x 8' stalls so everyone can lock up thier bike and tools and feel confident that it won't get bumped, scratched or stolen. Have a large open area to work on the bikes. Add a security system that can be remoted in from home and an HID door entrance system so you can keep track of who enters and leaves. That way it's 24 hrs and you don't have to live there.
That would also be better for the racer who may need to stay up late to get things done before a race. And when that kid who get's all the hot chicks needs a place for a quickie after the bar closes, you get a good show!

Great suggestions and all stuff I have thought of and am working on. I will be making stalls for the "partners" the people who pay the most money and will be helping to run it.

I will have a remote camera and security system. It will help decrease the insurance.

This can't be a 24hr shop. Security is too much of a risk. There will be limited open shop hours. Mostly it will be by appointment (when one of the "partners" is there other people can be there)

I need to order the lifts from Harbor Freight and get to Sears to buy some tools.

For what I am asking of them I had to keep it low.

Basically this will be a few guys I trust to help manage the shop so I want to give them a deal.

Re: Doc's Shop. VT MOTORCYCLE SPA

Ok so after some "issues" this looks like it might be happening. Smaller area than I initially thought and a more simplified plan but if I get enough people to cover the expenses I am going to make a go of this soon.

PM me if you want in on heated storage space for your bike this winter in Northern Vermont.
