I hate Black Labs... especially the ones that are full size, like the size of a great dane. Yep! i hit one last night. Doin only about 25-30mph, but daaaaamn, my first wreck. Been riding only this season, from May till now, and over 10k miles under by belt... and i KNEW it was going to be an uncontrollable outside force that would bring me down.
So... Story... I was riding down a straight backroad... when i say straight, i mean straight haha, but it was a little hazy out, not quite fog yet. So it's a 30mph zone, and i'm playin it safe going about 25 cuz i can't see well. I got a girl on the back too. Only the second time i ever hung out with her. God was this a dumb idea...
So we went riding, and i was heading North back to my part of town only 10 minutes away where there was no fog, and no woods. (city part of Rhode Island)
BUT BEFORE WE GET THERE.... cruisin bout 25... out of no where, what i thought to be a WOLF came screwing out of the woods on my right hand side, and stopped like a deer in headlights right in front of me about 20 yards ahead. So, i did quick stop procedures... cuz i wasn't going to swerve this one. I Pounded that puppy broadside right in the middle of the ribs, maybe even his gut region. BAM!!! dog goes flying, i lowside, girl goes sliding somewhere behind me, and off into the grass on the side of the road... while i'm still sliding, the bike and i end up trading places, so now i think i'm going to hit a pole, and have a 500lb bike hit me after it. But strangely, i wasn't feeling a thing during all this. weeeeeiiiiiiiiirrrd. Although it's my 3rd real bad accident in my life, and it happened the same way with all of them. ( my first when i was driving, all others i was a passenger.)
So, there lyes a 115lb Black Lab, then me, then my bike, and 20 feet behind us, the girl. Firetrucks show up, then police, then the dog "dissappears" and no one see's what happened to it.
i dont understand this because there was SO much shit going on and emergency personell everywhere.
WHERE DID THE DAMN DOG GO?!?!?!?! it couldn't of survived because there was a pool of blood the size of an xxxxxxL beach ball! (the kind you sat inside when you were in elementary school.)
Then an officer reminds me that there is a Leash Law in Rhode Island.Means i'm off the hook if we can find out who's dog it was! That's the trick though... dog didnt have a tag on him when i looked, and the dog dissappeared. Strangely IMMEDIATELY after the accident, the people of the house we crashed in front of, were outside. How'd that happen??? i'm sure they wern't playing badmitten at 11pm and just ready right there for an accident.
i think they were chasing after the dog... and i was collateral damage.
I WANT TO KNWO WHERE THE DOG WENT! ! ! ! AND HOW COME NO ONE SAW IT LEAVE!
sO YA, bike is screwed for a week or so till i can get it goin again. PS~Do Suzuki GSXr and haybusa forks fit a bandit 1200? my year is 2004 bandit. I'm just concerned with the way the brake bolts line up. Anyone know what would work? and how much i'm lookin to spend for forks?
PS- i know there's alot of questions here, sorry about all this.
how's the girl?
how are you?
what were you both wearing?
i think animals like to go off and die by themselves, dog prolly bailed...

I havea 115lb black lab and have always said if something hits him, hes going to cause some damage. Glad everyone is relatively ok besides the dog of course which sucks.. but yea no mention of any injuries to you or the girl? I hop she wasnt cute.. she probably wont ride with you again lol
Glad ur ok though.
That's shitty. Glad you're both okay though.
That crash sounded pretty intense for going 25mph and hitting the brakes before you hit the dog.

Call around to some Vets to see if it was brought in. Hope you heal up. Glad its not worse.

"hat crash sounded pretty intense for going 25mph and hitting the brakes before you hit the dog."
I thought the same thing, considering theres no reason you cant stop from 25 mph in 20 yards nevermind going that far on the brakes and still having enough energy for the bike to slide (at all). No matter how it happend and how nice the wheelie you were doing wasits just good that everyone is aight.
are you ok?
there's been a lot of accidents this season that I've been hearing about...just make sure you (and the girl) are safe and sound
fucking dog...was there a trail of blood leading to its home?
dogs in the woods dying slowly from internal injuries. sorry about your wreck glad you seem ok. shit happens and bikes can't be fixed. sucks for the dogs owner. he may have just gotten loose.
Well, ya see, as i hit the brakes, i Hit the dog at the same time. It came running from my peripheral vision from the right side of the road... Black lab, Black night, no street lights, and poor visibility. Pretty much slammed em and slid.
But ya, SVRACER01, i'm interested in the forks. I'm real short on cash right now, so let me know what your asking.
The girl got taken to the hospital in the ambulance. She hit the back of her head on the pavement on the fall, adn the forehead part of the helmet came down and hit the bridge of her nose. She's not pretty anymore![]()
But absolutely, from 25mph, one should be able to stop within 20 yrds. Take into account of my reaction time to seeing the dog running, then saying STOP to yourself. I had already hit it by that time.
Crashin sucks.
I was wearing my riding jacket w/ kevlar shoulder and elbow pads, made of nylon or somethin, w/ jeans and boots, gloves w/ carbon knuckles, and a helmet. She was wearing my inner lining to the jacket under her hoodie, a helmet, jeans and sneakers.
I think i'll always be wearing my gear from now on... always. Like the saying goes... "it's not just you that has to be careful, it's all the other drivers on the road you have to watch out for!"

That's right, back to a 2 cylinder, 3 cylinder, and a 4 cylinder.
I was just sitting here trying to figure out how to respond to that.
You sound like a dick. Let me guess, she was in your spare helmet that is already too big for you? And you, all geared up, didn't put her in any of yours since she obviously didn't have her own? What a guy.
This is why I never put my back seat on.

sorry to hear it for all involved...
I once took out a dog in my car...
popped into the street outta nowhere.
the leash got wrapped around the tire and the dog went around the wheel well maybe twice...its a nasty sound I wont forget.
I stopped and tried to free it and it bit me then ran off.
Nothing like that to get your adreneline running.
It had to get put to sleep. Luckily no rabies.
I was on my way to a wedding... we get there and I'm bloody and
late ! Way to cause a big distraton huh?

In his defense i commented on the "pretty" part so I think he was joking in response to that but.. the gear thing I have a problem with too. To the point where ive gotten into many arguments with passengers that I always seem to win. If they want on the back and I only have one set of gear, they are wearing it. At least jacket and helmet. They are my responsibility when they are on the back, sometimes they dont understand that. Its probably because they have been riding before with people that dont really give a shit about em.
Not to mention the story went from, "cruisin bout 25... out of no where, what i thought to be a WOLF came screwing out of the woods on my right hand side, and stopped like a deer in headlights right in front of me about 20 yards ahead. So, i did quick stop procedures..."... to it came out of no where and as soon as I told myself "STOP" I hit the dog..
GL, hope shes ok and the bikes fixable. Id recommend riding solo for a while

Oh, i see, "Qfactor" is selling them. I didn't read that right.
But oh my god, you make me seem like an asshole, OF COURSE I CARED ABOUT THE GIRL!!!!!! She was wearing my inner liner to my jacket which had all the pads!!!! she was wearing that under her sweatshirt. She looked like a poof ball! And yes, she is ok. I made her go in the ambulance even though she refused treatment. I MADE her go! i wanted to be sure she was ok. I was wearing the outter shell of my jacket that is just the wind barrier part, and i had a t shirt on under that.
I was only going about 25, but the dog ran into the middle of the street from the side. Remember, it was Night time... and it was a Black lab, and there were no street lights, and it was slightly FOGGY. when it ran out, i wasn't sure what if was... or if it was anything, until it looked my direction and i saw the orange glow of eyes, then POW! I mean, i can't explain it perfectly... I'm not a retard on the bike, i'm very responsible, especially compared to many riders and 'squids' i've seen.
when i left my house, it was a clear night. Driving down to pick her up, i had been riding for 10 minutes in clear skies, i entered the woods, and the visibility dropped. i rode 5 more minutes to get her, and on our way back, before we got out of the swap area and the woods is when we hit the dog. It was just that area that was foggy, and the city where we were heading was a beautiful night for riding. It was cold, and it was convection fog (for anyone who took meteorology) that we were going through.
Sorry to all if i sounded like an a-hole and that i didn't care about the girl, but i absolutley did. She was the #1 priority after the accident. I didnt care about the bike, and ESPECIALLY didnt care about the dog. I didn't go and look at either of them until she left in the ambulance to get checked out.
But being blunt... she was hot. ...well she is hot... but the bridge of her nose got hit by the helmet, and now she's got a black eye from it. I keep telling her that if she didn't wear the helmet, and got whip lash and smashed her head on the ground, she may have not even been here. It doesn't take a real hard hit to the back of the head to make anyone die.
Long story short, we're both lucky, her and I, that none of us got seriously hurt. I really have zero feelings for the dog, which is strange. Strange because i've hit a couple squirrels and a racoon in my truck, and i felt like shit afterwards! So why i feel absolutely nothign for the dog.... apparently it wasn't my #1 priority during all of that.
I hope the dog is ok
Hey man,
I often don't think before I speak. I kinda grew out of it but ...
Try typing what you want to say then read what you wrote .... it might eliminate the confusion.
Your bike can be fixed (insurance can help) Her skin will heal ....... But the DOG ........
