Should be, but that will scratch the nut pretty badly. The specialty tools are softer aluminum and tapered at the end to prevent marking. You can probably get one on eBay for under $50. It may be costly but the nut will look like you used a blender on it the other way.

I would get a steel six point socket as that nut is on there pretty tight.
Get stuck in the middle of VT with a flat and you'll wish you spent the $80 on the socket. Local Jap dealership probably doesn't have a socket that size and at that point you're SOL. I got an aluminum to keep on my bike just in case and a Speedymoto for my workshop.

I have a socket for the 848 if you want to buy it off me, sold the bike so I don't really need it.
