I've got a few trackdays booked for the coming season and have been thinking about buying a set of aftermarket rearsets to move the pegs up and back a bit. On the track last year it seemed like my pegs and toes would drag pretty easily and that unnerved me a bit and kept me from leaning the bike over as much. Is a set of rearsets a wise use of money for an amateur trackday rider, or do I just need to learn to hang off more and not worry so much about a little toe sliding?
Man, the weather needs to warm up fast so I can stop poking around ebay spending money on bike crap and start riding again![]()
Do it!!!! Not only will it tuck things in a bit for trackdays, but consider the bling factor and bragging rights!!!!!!!![]()

Abso-fucking-lutely.
Did I spell that correctly?
Put your tootsies on your pegs in a corner, no-no resting your arch on the pegies' roundness.

Thanks dan, yeah I was trying to concentrate on getting my toes on the pegs, it was hard to do that though, there's a lot of slop in my current boots and trying to get up on my toes just ended up pulling up on the heel and folding the boot at the ankle.Originally posted by legalspeed

Hence a well fitting race boots are also on my shopping list. I really like the look of the alpinestars SMX plus, with the internal lace system I think it might offer a much more snug fit.
Anybody know a local place that stocks these boots?
Oh yeah, and rearsets, so the woodcraft sets look to be the most reasonably priced for my bike and I'm a cheap fuck, any cautionary tales about them from those of you who know more about these things than I?
I'm gonna be broke before the snow melts![]()
Oh shit, bling? Does this mean I'd have to wash my rims? I'm not sure I'm cool with that.Originally posted by lrrs167

Jeffpegs are great!
I have crashed them plenty and bent them back using a 10ton press here at work.
buy Woodcraft rearsets.

Well, if you're draggin toes, but not pegs, then it's just a technique thing. You don't need 300 dollar rearsets for that.
I have to cram my feet as close to the bike as possible even after I get my toes on the pegs.
If you're draggin pegs, there are other techniques you can work on to reduce this problem. Turn in quicker, get on the gas sooner, set up you suspension.
After you've mastered these techniques and you're still dragging pegs, then the investment is a must to go faster.
Of course, the EASY way out is to buy the rearsets now and forget about improving your technique![]()
One warning about rearsets, the pegs are hard mounted. They don't fold back when you drag your toe, or even worse put your foot down in front of the peg. Even while walking the bike this will hurt. You still have to learn how to get your toes on the pegs and tucked in!
They do look great though... Woddcraft is the best value.
I think that's a tremendous idea if you'll be doing more than one track day.
However, I'm skeptical towards the notion that these rearsets will increase in value over an extended period of time.

Like said above, if your'e scraping toes most likely you need to change your positioning some. Have you been dragging your pegs or dragging the feelers on them?
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
i like the stock folding pegs myself. cause when i use my bad technique and drag a peg real hard i can keep standing on the perpetrator and it doesn't unweight my rear wheel and send me sliding!

I'll keep working on the body positioning, I know it probably still sucks, I am most definitely an amateur trackday enthusiast. But I'm booked for at least 6 days on the track next year and I figured...ok, I figured it's cold, and I'm bored, and I like perusing ebay and buying baubles![]()
I'm pretty sure it was just the feelers and not the pegs themselves dragging, I just couldn't get past the part of my brain that told me this meant stop to leaning. But I guess that's probably better helped by practice than bolt ons. Is it time for VIR yet? How about now? NOW?![]()
