848 all day every day
848's are out there and definitely within your price range. I sold my 848 EVO for 10,5 with only 1400 miles last december. They're fun but in my opinion not the most comfortable to ride any sort of distance on. Love my 1199S but it's the same deal, not comfortable for any length of time on regular roads. On a track I'm sure it's a different story because you're never sitting upright. I'd like to try a Hyper on for size for the streets.
Panigale 1199S
If you already have a Tuono and a C14 then recommending a Monster or an ST4S would not make sense to me. From the SBK's, I would go with the 848 which makes more sense for the street than a 1089/1198. Didn't the 749's have some rain-related electrical gremlins? PLus the 848 makes a lot more power and is lighter.
Well, I went to Seacoast Sport Cycle yesterday and may be trading my C-14 in for a 2012 Multistrada 1200 S Touring. It's a nice machine and would keep me at 2 bikes for now. We will see.
Thanks for all the great feedback. I appreciate it.
Seacoast Sport Cycle Rocks.
No matter what Duc you choose, you can't go wrong with the team at Seacoast.![]()
I just ordered one of the these:

I am trying to find the 2 bikes that suit my needs. I am enjoying the BMW K1600GTL for 2-up touring. I'm hoping the HyperStrada will satisfy the kid in me.
And yes...Seacoast Sport Cycle does rock!

I have owned: 2 851's, an 888, 2 748/853 race and street, 848 which saw race and street, 749R track currently (rode on street for a month or so). They all have their strong and weak points.
Experience wise an 851/888 is hard to beat. No other Ducati is like it. Handling and serviceability the 749R and 848's are fairly close. The 848 engine is a beast, the 749R revs so quick and is so flat it's almost like a V4.
If I had to have one to do it all, it would be an 748/853 kit or an 848. Likely the latter. It's one of the best and most reliable Ducatis ever made and parts are everywhere.
I prefer the small bore SBK's though, something about less rotating mass near the crank makes them so much livelier and more flickable letting you thrash them with confidence.
The 998/999S would win for me if you like moar powah.
This is a all new bike for 2013. New 821cc liquid cooled Testastretta 11° motor.

It's actually a *smaller* Hyper, with some touring accessories. The current Hyper comes in 796 and 1100, both 2V air/oil-cooled engines with fat torque curves and not as much top end. The new one has an 821cc 4V watercooled engine based on the 848, with a lot more top end and peak power than even the 1100 2V, but not so much bottom/midrange. I really liked the old one, and a lot of that had to do with that big torquey hooligan lump in it. I'm not as sure I'll like the new one as well, but I'm willing to give it a chance. I really like the "strada" package idea, and I bet if they had offered something like that on the 1100, I would have called that a nearly perfect motorcycle.
