Good ole Miguel. Hope he heals up fast.
"DuHamel Has Severe Internal Injuries
by dean adams
Wednesday, August 08, 2007
After his CT scans and x-rays came back and were examined by medical professionals it was learned that Miguel DuHamel has suffered a lacerated liver, a perforated lung and a bruised lung in his Road Atlanta crash today.
Clearly the lacerated liver is the most troubling of the three injuries although none of them are to be taken lightly.
A lacerated liver can be fatal if untreated and can take an extended amount of time to fully heal. In many cases doctors will not allow someone with this condition to perform any activity where further trauma is possible.
Persons at the scene of the crash said that DuHamel experienced some sort of trouble near the top of the turn 12 hill and soon after the bike went completely sideways and impacted the turn 12 wall, which had tires, straw bales and airfence in front of it.
DuHamel's Honda CBR1000RR was destroyed in the crash which took place on a very hot day in Georgia. Thermometers were cranking all the way to 106 degrees at the track today.
More updates when info breaks.

This seems especially stupid.. even worse then Turn 3 at Loudon.
Cause they can just move that pit road out, maybe make it go around those huts where they've already got another road, and then just bulldoze the wall and turn the pit road into a gravel trap...
Too bad Miguel is always the one who has to prove a track is too dangerous.![]()
Never mind.. a quick google search indicates the track hasn't been safe for a long time and even a lot of car drivers have been seriously injured on that wall.
The Road Atlanta staff has been aggressively searching for an "acceptable" solution to this problem for a few years now.
Unfortunately, there apparently isn't one in sight. As stated before, they are extremely reluctant to just bulldoze the wall and move it back - it's more difficult than that.
On a positive note, it looks like Miguel will be OK in the coming days and weeks - and you're right, it's a shame that he is usually the one that graphically points out the dangerous tracks.
But the good news is that he may have a future as a HONDA spokesman after he retires........he can be a walking "Unsung Hero/Honda Genuine Parts" advertisement after Honda rebuilds him............again.

I don't know what they're major malfunction is.. like I said it did not take Miguel nearly killing himself to bring this wall to their attention.
There was a guy paralyzed in a Spec Miata race in that corner over 12 years ago, and that was a fully safety prepped race car with a full roll cage & harness, and not exactly a massively fast car. There are a long list of horrific injuries in that corner and some of the car racing groups left a long time ago because that corner is ruled too dangerous.
AMA should have left a long time ago.![]()
