I have a question, I am selling my bike and I had someone come to my house and tell me he wanted to buy the bike. He wants to do it through pay pal and wants to pay 2000 today and 2000 tomorrow, is there any way I am getting scammed? What should I do to protect myself? Thanks, any help is apreciated!!!!
Arguing on the internet is like winning a gold medal in the special olympics......whether you win or lose you are still retarded!
if he is comming to see it, id tell him to bring cash
he told me that because he has an out of state bank that he is not able to take out more then 400 a day. But if he does paypal he can do 1/2 today and 1/2 tomorrow... I just do not want to get scammed on this.

Tell him to just bring cash. If he really wants the bike, he'll find a way to get the money. If not, he can wait the week to get the cash.
Sounds fishy to me. I wouldn't do it.

Sounds fishy. Tell him to put 2k into a friends paypall today and the second 2k on saturday and then have his friend give him the 4k cash. Or tell him he can pick up the bike once the second 2k is cleard through paypall into your account.
cash or nothing if he's comin to the house. I wouldn't trust it...
Bras cause cancer.
were you asking 4k? or did he negotiate?
..either way sounds like a scam, or he's trying to use his CC. It's all about personal trust though - I've financed people if they just plain don't have the funds at that single point in time, but I wouldn't do it to someone I thought was living about their means either.
Is he Nigerian? thats also a sure sign.

My guess is he's trying to use his CC or someone else's, but it definitely sounds fishy to me too and personally I would pass on it.
If the situation wasn't shady, PayPal is fine, I use it all the time - except they would automatically deduct a percentage of the sale amount from you so you'll lose that amount and would want to charge him accordingly to make up for it.
If you want to make sure he's not using some stolen credit card or something ask him for his PayPal ID so you can check if he's a Verified member. At least you'll know he's paid people using PayPal before without a complaint.
If you don't already have a PayPal account, I wouldn't even consider it though - you would have to register for a business account in order to receive a credit card payment and it's kinda a big production. It's kinda complicated, but PayPal also has a $2,000 limit for Unverified members - that would point to something shady because it's not $2000 per transaction, but $2000 per account - that would mean he'd have to set up another account using someone else's name and then send the amount - shady!
I think overall if there is any question, just don't do it. Whenever someone starts saying stuff about out of state bank accounts, yada, yada, I would I would personally run the other way! He can go into any bank and take an advance on his CC if he's legit. If he didn't specifically explain the situation, I'd tell him to take a hike...
Let him pay however the fuck he wants, just dont give him the bike until the money is in your account, and verified.
Take cash. Its not your fault the guy doesnt have a bank locally. Its called walking in and making a withdrawal, you can take out as much as you want, its nothing new, he should learn now to utilize that option in banking.
Seriously, even a plane ticket or a few hours drive is cheaper then the few hundo you're gonna rack up in paypal fees on a 4k transaction.Originally posted by JeffL
