First I see this guy who is on a new R1 lumbering through town, without a helmet, jeans and some type of low cut shoe. But he has on a leather jacket and these little red gloves that match the jacket perfectly.
Then there's a guy on some type of green Kawi with a huge ass rear tire and a temp plate. His helmet is a bandanna and his jacket is a sweatshirt. No matching gloves though.
Maybe they were on their way to pick up their helmets at the dealer, but it just seems so weird that someone would go out of their way to wear matching gloves but no helmet on a bike that goes 180+ Then there's people like me over here wondering if the back padding in the kevlar jacket is going to be safe enough or do I need the back protector for day trips too.
It makes me wonder what the split is of "riders" versus "owners"...
What % of sport bike riders have bikes mostly for the image?
What % of crusier riders do the same?
What about touring bikes?
How about naked bikes?
How about all bikes?

I am 100% in favor of letting people decide what is best for themselves.
If you don't want to wear a helmet... FINE!
If you don't want to wear eye protection... FINE!
If you don't want to wear leather... FINE!
If you don't want to wear gloves... FINE!
But if you crash and get hurt, I reserve the right to call you a STUPID FUCK!

I know ranking on someone for a lack of gear it sounds like an elitist attitude but to me its the fact that someone would go to the extreme end of the spectrum for a bike but not gear up. If they were on an old beater it wouldn't look so odd.Originally posted by oreo_n2

Like when you go skiing you know you're going to see some dude with his jeans tucked in his boots and his pats jacket loaded up with snow from dumping. He's probably on 12 year old skis or some $10 rentals. He's clueless but he doesn't give a crap he's just having fun and farting around and having fun.
But what if you saw the same skiier running a $1500 world cup GS ski & boot setup, wearing the same getup but not knowing how to carve a turn, only tuck down the groomers and slide on the tails?
That's kind of what I see with 180hp/180+mph bike and no helmet + tennis shoes...if it makes sense...?
