Wtf is going on in Boston? Store your bikes somewhere away until they catch the pricks.
Sorry to hear bro.
holy shit !!! that was them riden away on your bike? so there was 2 of them...
SUCKS !!!
get an alarm.. i believe you can get GPS on it too...
Sorry dude. Socks.
Where did you buy it?
Dude...
That sucks. Wish you the best.
Sorry to hear man. I worry for those that live in the Boston area and do not have garage parking. So many scums out there.
I'm sorry about your bike getting stolen. I would however expect more of this, on different levels in the coming years. It's where we are headed.
Yes, that is the VDO of the thief from security camera.
I will invest a lot of money in security in my next bike
Do gps make the battery out if i don't use my bike for a week?
You might find this Question and Answer with a former professional thief interesting.

If you believe him, then there is not much you can do to prevent a determined professional.
The short version: Make it as time consuming and difficult as possible. But is the cost and effort worth it? If you don't ride much, maybe. If you ride all the time, it'll discourage you. Carry proper insurance, and use the free and simple ways to reduce the risk.

The reason I ask. It wouldn't be *extremely unheard of* for a previous owner to sell a bike and perhaps accidentally keep a key around, especially if they knew where the bike would be.
You say he's your friend. I'm not questioning that. Is there anyone else who you might not trust with *access*?
BU sucks!
this happened because you have a popular/nice bike and you live in a city...particularly in an area that is thief happy (buncha rich kids at school) and close to the allston/brighton slums
out here in socal, a dude posted a "hey my bike got stolen" post on all the forums, and it was spotted about an hour away and recovered

Just give in to these simple facts. You live in a major city, you don't have a garage and you own(ed) a supersport bike. Keep it fully insured and expect it to be gone everytime you walk out. We've all done it. You can chain it up, disc lock, throttle lock it, cover it - best bet is insurance. Keep it full and keep it paid. Best of luck finding your bike, hope it comes back to you!

Sorry to hear! People suck and I certainly hope someone sees it and speaks up! Hopefully your insurance will cover the cost of a replacement and you are not out of riding too long!

I read some of that thread last night, interesting read for sure.
Seems breaking the steering, hot wire, and ride away is preferred. It got me thinking, is it even possible to do this on a bike with a chip key? Or have they thought of everything and come up with a way?
He makes a good point about tossing a motorcycle that goes 185mph into a van that does 85mph, interesting theory.
It's easy to say keep good insurance on it and not worry..but at what point..or how many bikes stolen before the insurance companies deny you coverage all together? Not talking deny a claim, talking about your next new bike..or when your policy expires?

I have never looked into bikes .. But I know plenty about the systems in cars..
And I think I could figure the bikes out
I wont go into crazy detail
If the systems are similar the code is stored in a location and a antenna is around the key cylinder ..
key has signal..
antenna ring picks up signal
ecm/ecu/dcm gets signal
allows vehicle to start
You would only need a key and the "item" the key is stored in programmed (used pair)
Bypass the traditional wiring
plug in that item
hold key up to cylinder
start.

Insurance is great. But then they'll never give you what you PAID for the bike.. or what it will actually cost you to replace.
And your premiums are likely to go up.
And then there's the down-time without the machine.
Thieves should be publicly hung by their testicles (or lady-bits) and used as pinatas for neighborhood kids.. with spiked bats..
In the case of my scooter, insurance said 14-21 days for resolution. My biggest issue is with the idiotic cops in Dracut MA. Worst town ever capped off by the most incompetent police department ever. I have a very good idea of who stole it and they won't do anything about it. Dracut police suck. Donut eaters they are. I hope they find this on Google.
You'll never get your bike back because the thief could literally drive it to the police station and nobody would bother to think twice. Insurance sucks, you'll be lucky to get book value. I have progressive and I'm crossing my fingers.
From the video - dude #2 doesn't have a helmet? And it looks like the lights get a lot brighter - did they bump start it, you think?
In days of old, my brother had a 1965 GTO, stolen twice. After that he took to removing the distributor cable when he parked in Boston. Is there something you could take with you on a bike that wouldn't be easy to jumper out?

Buy your bikes in a smart way, carry insurance, and don't worry about em getting stolen. I guess I've just never gotten too attached to any of my bikes and always bought used bikes for great deals.
I loved my Daytona, but dammit I would have made a pretty penny if that one got stolen.

A man of many names...Jay, Gennaro, Gerry, etc.
just do what the reddit dude said
1.) lock steering
2.) use $100 disc lock on REAR wheel
3.) use U-lock on fixed part (frame, swingarm, etc.)
4.) locking cover
5.) alarm done right - hide wiring under factory wiring loom so it's difficult to disable, and don't leave the alarm parts within reach under the seat or tank
6.) remove clutch lever (imho, also take off shift lever...if you put the bike in gear, he can't shift it into neutral or engage the clutch...bike is stuck)
if you say "well that's too much work!", then when living in a city, you decide if it's too much work to have the bike stolen or not. Or, just buy a 70's UJM, or streetfighter ninja 250, or maybe even a zrx
