So I just couldn't help myself because this afternoon is supposed to be in the 50s here, so I rode to work today. It was 32 at home when I left and 34 when I got to work. 40 minutes of the coldest riding I've ever done. I dressed for it and made sure I wore cold weather gloves this time. Once I was out in 37 degrees with normal riding gloves for 20 minutes - that was a mistake!!
I'm sure there are plenty of you who will gladly ride in near or below freezing regularly, but I'm just cutting my teeth. Normally for me the worst is race practice in the rain when its roughly 40 degrees.

yeah i did 40 miles on saturday and it was 39 when i left and 41 when i got there, and thought my fingers were gonna fall off on 95
Luckily for me, 60 was the fastest I rode as I'm out in the Berkshires and all the speed limits are 50 and below. Windchill will kick my ass if I go faster. I tried to get it over with in the aforementioned 20 minute stint at 37 degrees and 90mph hurts fingers way more than 60mph.

For $30 you can't go wrong. I've had them on every streetbike for years.

Grip heaters ftw. Only take about an hour to install or so, and make a world of difference.

I was toasty riding in, all 26 miles of it.
Heated grips but NO heated liner today.
I have a three season rev-it jacket with a liner and its great. Just a dress shirt and that. I even took the liner out of the pants.....
Just make the investment in gerbings if you want to commute any time before May or after September in this god forsaken area!

yeah, super easy. Pop your grips off, clean the bars with some alcohol, stick the heaters on, use the provided wire tap to tap into your low-beam (or other switched 12v source) ground the black wire and you're done. I usually spend more time finding a good mounting location for the switch than I do wiring them up. Spend an extra couple bucks and buy the neoprene boot. Adds some extra water protection and the normal nut that comes with the switch has a tendency to rattle loose.
brrr. i rode in over the jamestown and Newport bridges in RI. Riding over the water at 65 is COLD at 0700. Wore the new bright orange vest that the Navy makes me wear (got a somewhat cool one from Icon), worked well.
Cant wait for those days when it isnt PAINFULLY cold in the AM...

Yup I rode into work today and it was colder than I thought it going to be.
Even took a trip during lunch hour and went into Fenway area to buzz by REI
and it was pretty chilly even at 1pm!
Funny how its all in your state of mind and the proper gear.
I rode twice last week and thought nothing about the low early morning temps.

I rode this morning as well. I wanted to begin breaking in the new suit. 25 min of highway riding at 40 degrees....brr!
My bike has been on the road for three weeks now. Gerbings comes in handy this time of year.
I have over 2500 miles since Jan 1
already worn out one set of tires

It sounds like tucking your man junk back like the silence of the lambs freak is an every season thing for some. Look into Gerbings and enjoy the ride without having to even think of the temp except for the possible visor fog. If you're comfortable you're probably more alert. Its a safety thing, thats my excuse

Sallies.
While not as hardcore as RandyO, I'll ride down into the low 20s if there isn't any ice on my route.
No, not me. Up here near winni dodging frost heaves between branch shadows. I can tell you that low 20's with gerbings is worth its weight in sanity. I've said it in previous posts and will say it again. Its a coccoon at speed. With the dual controller for liner/gloves, it fuckin rocks.
