motard...?

so, I'm thinking about building a motard as a project this winter... I'm pretty sure I want to start out with a 4 stroke bike, 'cause I think i'd like to ride it on the street, and 4 stroke is more practical. I don't know much about 4 stroke dirtbikes though, so do yu guys have any good recomendations? I was thinking about a yammy yz 426 or wr 400, or maybe a honda xr... any recomendations? Also, any good web resources you guys know of? THanks...

Thumper talk has a Supermoto section that'll have answers to most any question.

I like the yammys so i'd say a YZ/WR 400, 426, or 450. I think the WR250 and YZ250F would make a pretty cool supermoto as well.
Rumor has it you'll be able to buy a YZ/WR 450 supermoto brand new from your local yamaha dealer in 04 You'd still have to add the street lighting though.
Plan on spending close to $3k to fully convert a MX bike to a street legal supermoto (no, the bike is not included in the 3k)
