Well this morning I had my first real motorcycle accident. Same as always dump truck took a right hand turn on red and right in front of me. Guy said he never saw me.
I didnt lock up the rear but rather had the front end wash out on me. I have been riding long enough to know I didnt lock up the front brake but know the area and it tends to be wet with dew in the mornings. Truck took a pretty wide turn and made it hard to go around.
Police, ambulance, fire trucks all showed up. Bruise shoulder, back, hip, right thumb, and ego. I could have avoided it but just didnt. Took a nice ambulance ride to the emergency room for xrays and an overall check up. Everything came back clean
Bike is toast. Bars are both bent, front tire is gone, rim gone, tank gone, fairings are toast.
Well my riding career is over most likely so dont be surprised if you see gear and parts for sale shortly for a 2002 SV650. Wife said first kid or first accident so we will see how convinceing I can be!!
Keep the rubber side down ladies and gentlemen and ride safely

Tim,
Sorry to hear and glad you are OK.
Sorry to hear the bad news dude. Good thing you weren' badly hurt.
No no I didnt hit my head that hard. He took a right turn on red after he "stopped".
We will see what the police report says.
I was wearing a shoei rf 1000 that saved my head, a teknic leather jacket with full armor, A* SMX-R boots, full gautlet gloves. Gear is AWESOME!!! Only got one little scrape on my eblow where the armor shifted a bit.
I really do not want to quit but I am not sure as I have a choice in the matter. If I choose to ride again my wife would have a fit. We will see how it goes.

Thank god for good gear. I am glad to hear you are OK. Good luck with the Mrs. It's not an easy argument to win. It took me a few years, but I got back on one.
Bummer! Best of luck with the wife!
I am glad that my wife knows how much I love riding and is supportive of me doing it. She trusts that I will make good decisions and keep priorities in order.
Good to here you are ok, and hope to here that you will be riding again soon.
Glad to see you're OK...sucks tho that's for sure. Good luck with everything.![]()

Tim,
You're a young man with a lifetime in front of you. The choices we make are sometimes hard but, at the end of the day, YOU have to make them in spite of the hopes, wishes and advice you might hear here...
I had something similar happen when my son was about a year old. I decided to forgo riding until I had gotten my kids established and on their way. That was the right decision for ME and me only.
But I have no regrets. My wife is reasonably supportive today of my love of motorcycles and she makes all sorts of allowances in her life to permit me my addiction. So, it was worth it for me. I have made compromises about my riding that reflect the love of my family. Its a complex calculus!!!
All I'm trying to say is whatever decision you make...whatever choice you take, make sure it's YOURs and one you can live with!!!
Good luck...not an easy choice but I suspect you already know the answer!

Wow, Sorry to hear about your crash. Glad you didn't get hurt too bad. You are right, good gear is priceless!
How can people hear stories like yours and still ride naked? I will never understand.
Good luck with your wife.

Heal up Brother....
Don't worry about the shims for the carbs....
Sit for a while, and I bet you'll be putting the bike back together...
Too old to rock and roll, too young to die.
Sorry to hear about your mishap. I wish you a speedy healing and good luck with your wife.
I know my wife is pretty wary about me racing with a kid on the way. Another reason I decided to pursue the Rider Coach thing.
Awesome new about the gear. Maybe some "squid" will learn from what you have written.
