    Exhaust repacks???

Sent a PM to someone knowledgeable but though I was ask around:

I believe I have blown whatever was left in there.... right out of there... are you familiar with these bad boys?

Seriously not only could it wake the dead but it seems down on power lately and I believe it's because not enough back pressure??? I'm sure it is louder today than it was last week fast forward to 2:50 - 4:00 and you can already tell it was loud last week.

Is there something we can do?

If not I'm going to order a stubby and loose a few pounds in the process.....

    Re: Exhaust repacks???

I have the pink stuff in my 929 exhaust now. its not a sheet like the white. so if you have a funny shaped can or if its dented like mine then its easier to pack it than having to wrap the core and slide the out can on.

edit: how about I put the link up in stead of being retarded. http://www.fmfracing.com/Products/MX/47

Oh I think I know where you're going, you just open up the tail end of the exhaust and start packing it in like it's soft fibreglass product, you just pull out whatever old crap is leftover and then just shove it in there and pack it down. I'm pretty sure Chris at GBM can figure out how to do that tomorrow, what does the kit typically cost?

Yah yah yah I get it, GBM prolly has that stuff on the shelf, if not somebody does, I can't wait to repack that thing tone it down and get my power back. Sure it's kind of academic the bike still hauls ass but once you have your machine exactly where you want it, when it's off a tad it's not any kind of fun. A cheap fix for once, thanks!

Have had to repack 3 exhaust cans and the Two Brothers stuff is top-notch. It works on both round and oval canisters:

I think I get it, you hammer it out with a chisel then after the repack you use a rivet to close it back, should be a no brainer I can do it in the driveway and have Chris seal it back up.

    Exactly.

Drill the old rivets out with a small drill bit. Clear the old shit out. Wrap the new stuff in (hold it in place with wire or masking tape), rivet it back up.

    Done deal.

Interestingly I see no rivets..... which kind of scares me... will look again when I go downstairs.

Thanks Ted, good to know you're still around. I assume I can avail myself of the sidewalk garage for a few minutes if necessary? I sure the good people of Watertown would actually appreciate that in the long run.

Heh-heh yah my original thinking was that if I was just stuffing the glass in that would be one thing...... It's interesting there appears to be but one rivet in each, where the license plate bracket is affixed. Slick like. It's a pretty sharp (and damn expensive) exhaust, $1,200 bucks and it's right purty.

I will feel up there on top, I can prolly get a finger between the underside of the seat area and top of the exhaust.... can't see anything from underneath except where the license plate bracket goes..

It's always a bit of a wrestling match to get the can open. A propane torch, a good vise and bench and maybe some channel locks are required. Careful not to mar anything. It's still worth doing.

Yah the system comes off easy though. I'm headed over the GBM just after 9 so I can call first and make sure they have the repack kits on the shelf.

I'll be sure to bring the camera for the before and after session, no I do not own a decibel meter though.

    Re: Exhaust repacks???

Well unfortunately it doesn't appear to be DIY because I don't have the necessary tools or space and I don't know what happens if I bust them free and then can't put it back together.

There are no front rivets. So I am scheduled to have them do it on Wed. the price for repack still beats the hell out of buying the stubby but there is one friend of mine who has a full garage so I'll see if I can cajole him into it
