Im trying to decide if I should buy a new full exhaust to compete with new 1000's. I have a k6 GSXR 1000 with a danmoto slip-on (looks amazing).
I just don't know if I should spend $800 on a new exhaust just to have 10hp more than what I do now, not including the pwV. Or....... should I just save money now, sell my bike in the spring and get a newer 1000? like a 2011 ZX10R
I would like a newer 1000cc but I am still in love with my k6 GSXR 1000
What have or would you guys do?
2006 SuzukiGSXR 1000 - Best bike so far !!
2007 Kawasaki ZX6R
97 Suzuki GSXR 600
2004 Yamaha R1
2003 Honda CBR 954RR
1997 Kawasaki ZX7R
youll never use all that power
When I start my KTM in the morning, rules are broken. Its inevitable...

an $800 full system probably isn't gonna get you a lot of hp gains. if you want more power get a good quality system, they're probably $1200+
are you trying to compete with other 1000s in a race? if the answer is no, then the full system is purely for your own personal reasons.

CBR929 - Price is not directly related to performance... usually related to quality and or marketing dollars, but not performance. Some of the best race exhausts are the cheapest, and made in North America.
I8 - bummer you already have a slip on, because full exhaust is the way to go. with the age of your bike and the fact that you'd be taking a hit on both the slip-on (if you sell it used) and the full exhaust (if and when you sell it - or the bike), i'd say it's not worth it.
Do you have a PCV yet? you can get 6-10HP out of a dyno tune with no exhaust ($150-200 in dyno time)... you wont get 10HP out of bolting on an exhaust, and you may get just over 10 with an exhaust, PCV, and tune (~$1200-1300 with exhaust you're looking at). What is the full system btw? If you post pictures of the 2 systems we can give you non-technical opinions based on aesthetics![]()
Kitt I agree with you to a point. most $800 full systems aren't really built for max performance. sure there are some but with the more expensive systems you typically get the best of everything.

That's a few trackdays, save your money and get your track on.
I've looked at an exhaust for my DL about 400 times. I keep coming back to what Greg pointed out.. or something like it.
Track days. Newer, better gear. Fuel for more rides. Hell, flowers for the missus...
what exactly do you mean by "compete" do you just want your street bike to have as much horse power as other peoples, or are you talking about being competitive with other 1000's on the track? either way, no its not worth it in my book. much more out there of higher priority to making a bike competitive.
just my 2cents

I'd agree that's a good system. I also saw the Yosh system for his bike for just over $800. probably a good system for that bike.
do you actually know about this bike or are you talking out of your ass? my 929 I noticed a huge gain in power and weight reduction when I went to a full system. then I noticed a little more power after it got tuned.

I8, do you have the stock rear shock in your bike?
Not a fan of yosh.
It was his calibrated butt dyno - because he said he NOTICED... a 10 HP gain can be felt in the arse, more so on smaller bikes. I don't think you notice dyno results... you just quote them. I am sticking with my dyno proven estimates for exhaust - 5-10 hp for exhaust, maybe another 5-10 for a tune, but wouldn't be any more than 10-15hp max combined increase (with 15hp being extremely optimistic).
Decals are a better bang for the buck.
Or, think of how many cups of StarBucks you could buy!

both
I don't know what it was with the stock exhaust but the butt dyno it felt like quite a lot right when I changed the system. and after the tune it gained 6hp from the first pull to the finished tune. That didn't feel like a huge gain, certainly could feel how much smoother it was though.

While a good hp gain can be felt, a lot of people also "feel" that their bike is faster just b/c it is suddenly a lot louder at any rpm. It feels faster, even though it likely isn't noticeably so. When I changed out my first bike's stock sewing machine can for a Micron slipon, it screamed. It felt like it was a new bike, even though I bet I gained on the order of 1-2hp.
Even if you can't feel some changes that can be detected on a dyno, I'll believe that over a butt dyno.
That I believe.![]()
its all about what its worth to you. i had no idea how far id push my 1000 when i got my exhaust but 5 years later i will tell you it was worth every single $ to me.
I fucking love my exhaust and everything about my bike right now. and it was a looooot more than $800. so do you man its your bike, you ll be the one riding it.

I was always under the impression that the massive weight drop of an aftermarket exhaust was actually the best benefit of one...thoughts?

Newer bikes with cat converters, yes. 10+lbs is common. Older bikes, *maybe* a pound or 2
