looking to add an extra power source or 2 on the bike for gps/cell phone. i have a 2003 kawasaki zx6r (not that it matters really)
i am pretty mechanically and electronically savvy but just looking for some ideas from people out there who may have done this. Sure i can wire up a cigarette type outlet but looking for a USB type set up since it would be a much more cleaner, and more compact, look in my opinion.
this may be the route i go. wire it in to the license plate light wiring as i dont use it and light the plate by other means. only downside its not weatherproof

Other options would be stuff like http://electricalconnection.com/powe.../pplug-usb.htm.
Depending on how complicated / clean you'd like to make things there's also items like http://electricalconnection.com/powe...late-02202.htm if you don't want everything just coming off of the battery.
I installed a power dist block under the seat and feed it through a relay directly off the battery. I luckily have a point of power that is only powered when the bike is running, that is used to power the relay closed. I run a small cord from under the seat and have a quick connect to my tank bag. In the tank bag I have a USB/12V connector which I plug everything into. When not in use, I coil the wire up and put it back under the seat. My tank bag also has a housing for my GPS so it works well.
I picked up this power distribution kit from a guy on SVrider who makes and sells them:

It didn't look TOO complicated to make on my own, but I suck at electrical so it was easier to buy it from him, then tap into the headlight wires coming off the fuse block to get switched power for the relay.
Once thats there its very easy to run usb/lighter outlet power off it.

Easter Beaver is a good source for kits too. They are very, very well put together. I have one of his power distribution blocks under my seat, one of his socket kits on my triple clamp, and a few other of his accessories buried in the bike.
