I"ve had two incidents in the past three days where I rode through a toll holding the EZ-Pass transponder in front of me and it either wasn't read or the light flashed red.
Unfortunately, this is the transponder from my car so is not registered to my bike whatsoever... will they still just send me the highest toll amount or do they tend to send out traffic tickets instead? It read fine in the other 2 tolls I went through in both directions, and it's not like I was trying to dodge the tolls.
I would register your bikes plate # to your account![]()
Once they crosscheck it you'll just get charged from your account.
....you have to have the bike registered to your EZ pass account....
if not...its 50bucks penalty per incident.
you can register that online...
now, if it happens again with the bike being registered to your account and all....then the
charge will be a buck more for what they call camera charge because they got you thru camera not the transponder.....i put the transponder in my jacket pocket and that seems to solve the issue....

I always thought it was one transponder per plate number. when i ordered mine i put in two plate numbers (one for the bike; one for the car) and I got two transponders?
they are free now, i'd say just get another transponder then you don't have to worry about grabbing it out of your car and putting it back when you are done
i think that was true in the beginning, but now...
each transponder is not assigned to a particluar vehicle....i have 3 transpornders myself, 1 for the suv and 2 for my bikes.....i asked if i get confused which ones go where..they said it does not matter, all the vehicles are registered under my account.

must be different up there. I go through the Newport RI tolls all the time with my car EZ pass on my bike (like today) with it just in the front pocket of a jacket, no problems yet.
I guess get it added to the account?

my e-z pass refuses to work for my bike. i might get it to go once every 10 tries . . . so i bent my plate flat against my undertail. camera's cant get it but i keep my transponder on me incase I get stopped. . . . i've never got a ticket, the plate is perfectly readable from behind but the cameras are all mounted high and at that angle they can't get it.
yep i'm an asshole . . . i wouldn't do it if the transponder would work

Happened to me before, i got the ticket in the mail. Just call em up and tell them what happened and then add your bike, worked for me.
A man of many names...Jay, Gennaro, Gerry, etc.
I was told by Maine's EZPass people not to bother with the unit on my bike. As long as the plate is listed on the account, I'm good to go.
They'll send you a letter in the mail with a $50 charge and a reply form. Check the box marked "I am a valid EZ-Pass/Fastlane customer", write down your transponder number in the space provided, and they'll waive the $50 and charge the toll to your account.

let us know what happens - I registered my bike plate just incase... Haven't been through a toll yet, but very interested to see how this turns out.
Huh? I've got...errr...1, 2, 3 cages & a bike regi'd to mine. I got a notice once that I skipped through. I just called 'em, told 'em to check their records and we were good to go. End of story...

EZ pass never worked on the Newport toll in my front jacket pocket. Had to mount it to the front windscreen. That works every time.
If it doesn't, that stupid bar doesn't lift. I guess they dont trust us RI'ers as much as the Mass Pike guys....
You guys pay tolls on your bikes?? Why?
I actually carry my transponder in my jacket, but it doesn't transmit through the leather, and the camera doesn't catch my plate (except for that damn Natick one).
They need to have the high speed lanes for this like they do in Florida where you can go 75 through the toll and it picks up the transponders.

You Sir know nothing of true greatness. I of course refer to ones ability to steal, drink and generally do nothing, and carry it off with style

I have 2 transponders and 4 vehicles. 5 at one point.
I put some velcro strips in the trunk of the bike. It usually works.

Even in the cage, my transponder only works ~65% of the time; otherwise I get a "Call EZPass" message with a yellow light. I've never gotten a letter...

This happened to me once. I just went into the EZPass place (up in Newington for me) and told them what happened, and they deducted the fine and cleared it up.
I velcro'd and zip tied mine to my top triple tree and have had 0 issues. I reg'd my truck, car and bike on one transponder.

We have 3 transponders registered to 4 vehicles (2 bikes & 2 cages). One transponder is 11 (YES 11) years old and still works 99% of the time.
One transponder is permanently affixed to Annalisa's bike behind the windscreen and has registered 99% of the time. The only times it hasn't was when I would go quicker through the lane (40+mph) and that was at Alston-Brighton, eastbound.

My Mass transponder has only worked once, in NH when I held it up in my hand. However, doing the same thing has not worked elsewhere. Also hasn't worked in a jacket pocket. Hasn't worked velcroed to the windscreen. And the one time I called the NH folks about it not working at the Hooksett tolls, the lady said that if my account was in good standing I didn't need to do anything.
Go figure.
