Scenario: Me, my wife and daughter walk into a restaurant, all carrying riding gear. Waitress asks "how do you get three people on one motorcycle?" (not considering that women can ride their own motorcycles).

This is a repost from Motorcycle Night last week but I think it belongs here:

Me: "Did you Armor All your tires?"
Him: "Yeah! Looks good, huh?"
Me: "Did anyone ever tell you that's a dangerous thing to do to motorcycle tires?"
Him: "I only put it on for bike nights then I wash it off at home."

Walking away I notice his dry rusted chain.
Me to NESR folks around the flagpole: "He oils his tires but not his chain."

Guy looks at my tires when getting the EX250 state inspected shortly after doing a trackday. "Are those race take-offs?"

cop in CT after pulling me over on RT7, prob 3PM in the afternoon, sunny day...

cop: "Hey, that guy has his high beams on, I'm gonna go yank 'em, stay right here."

goes and flags rider down, proceeds to check all his paper, etc. rider leaves

cop: "He said using the high beams was for safety and might even be in his manual, yeah right, you ever heard of that?"

me: "Well, yeah, a lot of riders do use their high beams because cars don't see us"

cop: "That's illegal, you're blinding other drivers."

me... silence

And? He could tell your tires have seen some track time how is that ignorant?

Uh... if he was having his bike inspected, there are tread depth requirements... hence race take offs would have no tread.

Or am I missing something

At a gas station about two years ago...

While I am standing there in full gear filling up with gas, the Harley Rider next pump over says to me,

"You kids and your sportbikes...Whats the point? You're gonna kill yourself on that thing!"

Harley rider then gets on his bike and rides off with no helmet wearing only shorts, a t-shirt, and sandals.

Had a NH State Trooper once tell me (after pulling me over) that I shouldn't speed on a motorcycle because I don't have the contact patch a car does so I can't slow down as quickly.

I politely thanked him for the advice.

Not all take offs are slicks and so they could still have life and tread left in them. My point was that a mechanic actually recognized a tire that had been tracked and so it doesn't seem like an ignorant comment, quite the contrary actually.

Harley guys don't ever get killed they kill themselves more frequently. Have u heard of the girl falling asleep on the back of a harley a few weeks ago and falling off and not making it? They should have seat belts on those things.

Sounds more to me like he recognized the tire usage as track wear but did not ever consider the fact that you could ride or achieve that amount of wear from a EX250. Hence the ignorant part...

Ah, I almost forgot about the douchebag that yelled something like this to me last night after he tailgated me for two miles. I turned left into my driveway, and looked back to see him stick his head out of that rusty little slammed civic to proclaim that he could teach me how to ride my bike.

I used to work with a Harley rider who said this all the time. Claimed he never used the front brake because it was "too dangerous."
