Ok, here's one that came from my mom (after seeing Narbone's chain break half way through SuMo warm up)
Mom: "Wow, his bike still has a chain!"
Me: "All sport bikes have chains, mom."
Mom: "No, a lot of bikes have belts!"
Me: "Cruisers like Harleys have belts, which are the lest efficient method of transferring power to the rear wheel. The only sport bikes I know of that use belt drives are Buells, which were made by Harley, so they were going to be a big POS anyway, but it doesn't really matter, Buell stopped making bikes last year."
Mom: "Well if he had a belt, that wouldn't have happened, so who's stupid now?"
Me: "Narbone must be stupid... you're right mom. He should totally race a Harley."

If I was, I was just busting his balls. I tell him lots of lies when I'm busting his balls
Belts really aren't all that bad. The problem I see with belts is they haven't had the same tensile strength (until recently) and your choice of gearing is either reduced or nonexistent. Other than that, they're quieter and require almost no maintenance aside from regular checks to make sure the teeth are okay.
I'm sure there's plenty of other pros and cons though.

"Is it fast?"
My answer...."Def not."
I googled a bit and I think the difference is small, but the consensus is that chain drives are more efficient.
Stated briefly, chain drives are the most economical way to transmit power to the rear wheel. They also convey the greatest percentage of engine power in the process. Chain drives are by far the most popular drive mechanism in motorbikes around the world. On the other hand, they also require the most maintenance, are dirty, and not as smooth as a shaft or belt drive. Bear in mind that the most routine motorcycle maintenance required of a rider is taking care of those metal chain links! (Unless you include putting gas in the tank.) So, reducing that chain maintenance equates to greater rider enjoyment.Power transmission chains can be
categorized as roller chain, engineering
steel chain, silent chain, detachable
chain, and offset sidebar chain.
Some of the advantages of chain
drives over belt drives are:
• No slippage between chain and
sprocket teeth.
• Negligible stretch, allowing
chains to carry heavy loads.
• Long operating life expectancy
because flexure and friction contact
occur between hardened bearing surfaces
separated by an oil film.
• Operates in hostile environments
such as high temperatures,
high moisture or oily areas, dusty,
dirty, and corrosive atmospheres, etc.,
especially if high alloy metals and
other special materials are used.
• Long shelf life because metal
chain ordinarily doesn’t deteriorate
with age and is unaffected by sun,
reasonable ranges of heat, moisture,
and oil.
• Certain types can be replaced
without disturbing other components
mounted on the same shafts as
sprockets.
Either way, my mom was suggesting that a dirt bike would be better off with a belt drive... which is definitely NOT the case since small amounts of dirt will degrade a belt with a quickness.

I had 30K on my HD belt when I totaled the bike. My buddy has over 70K on his belt. Once it has the initial stretch it sets and in my case there was next to 0 maintenance except for looking at it every 8K when I put a new back tire on. I wasn't nice to it either. I probably could have gotten another 30K out of it. Only one I ever heard with a belt issue is loun with his Hyosung. The draw is not easy to change gearing. ( Oh and my new BWM is belt driven )
But lets get back on subject...
How do you ride in the rain with out crashing, isn't it slippery?
It's below freezing out aren't you cold on that thing?

You ride? You don't strike me as a "Biker chick"! (OOOHHHH, I hate that term with the condescending tone....)
Motorcycles are dangerous, you know.
Now that you have a kid you're going to stop riding right? (I will note that Rob has YET to be asked this question, to my knowledge)

Cruiser Guy: "What's with all the leather? Aren't you hot? It's not like all that stuff makes your rice burner any faster."
Me: "Rice burner? This is a Triumph. If anything, it runs on boiled cabbage. Besides..."
Cruiser Guy: "Ahhh, I can't keep all those Jap bikes apart."
Me: "Isn't your VTX made in Japan?"
Cruiser Guy: "At least I don't give bikers a bad name."
Parking the bike outside the office
Old Guy "Is that one of those American Choppers I see on TV"
Me " No this is what YOU folks call a Rice Rocket. it is Japanese"
Old Guy " Why do you call it a Rice Rocket"
Me " I do not. I call it My Sport Bike"
Old Guy " well what is the Difference"
Me " Have a Nice day Sir"

I admit to being anti-social in my old age. I don't take my helmet off at fuel stops, and if anyone says anything even mildly annoying I say "I can't hear you - I have earplugs on" really loudly. Unless it's a kid.

Me: "Yea"
Cop: "Speeding Ticket"

Cop: "Oh really...?"
Me: "Actually sir, it means Thunder, Mille stands for criminal speeding..."
Cop:"I know, I had one."

Actually guy was pretty cool, turns out he had owned a few Aprilia's, which was surprising, cause I thought he was just tring to be an ass.

"You guys who ride them things are insane! Always wheeling and speeding!" Author Unknown.
Heard this last week when I pulled up to get some gas.
What about every time you're riding down the street and someone turns around to ask you to wheelie by gesturing with their arms and theirs a car in front of you, or you're coming to a red light??![]()
