Went for the Daytona exclusive ride on Sunday. 5 showed up, the weather and the T675.net forum being down the last week kept everyone else away. We were headed to Vermont but 80% rain changed our route.
We ended up leaving from Nashua around 9, went down 111, hopped on 102 and rode it out to 101. This is where the head checks comes in. Last man back didn't do one and had an Expedition in his blind spot. He lowsided at about 75 mph. I didn't see it, but I saw the expo pull over and all of a sudden 2 bikes were missing. Since I was leading I pulled the other 2 over and found out from someone who stopped that he went down and was laying in the median.
We whipped through a police turn around and shot back to him. An off duty nurse or doctor was there with an off duty firefighter and 2 cops. The lady was holding his head in her lap not letting him move until the ambulance got there (his helmet was already off). He got very lucky, fairly minor rash and the bike could've been a lot worse too. He was cleared by the ambulance and rode back with the tow truck. He was wearing a helmet, gloves, mesh jacket, kahkkis, and low top riding boots. Do your damn head checks ladies and fellas.
After I told the tow truck driver how to string up a bike (he was a real hack), since the police wouldn't let us ride it out for some reason, and they took off, we continued.
Went to Hampton, then up 1a through Rye, Portsmouth, and ran up the coast of Maine up into York. It was a highway schlep home since it was starting to rain.
Thanks to those that came out, and ride safe out there.
In Nashua getting gas and some breakfast.
Accident.

bike doesn't look too bad at all.

Ouch... not fun. Glad to hear he came out of it alright though. A 75mph swan dive is no picnic.
Very cool pic on the water w/ one of each color![]()

that grip/clipon is mangled.
glad he seems to have made out ok, but gear is never a bad thing...
hurray, strikethrough!

Yeah it was a real lucky day. He shreded the mesh jacket. Its on the ground in the first accident picture, you can kinda see the shoulder is all ripped up.
Mesh = Crap
A perforated leather jacket would have saved him all of that rash. And still allowed airflow. Lesson learned.
Glad he's relatively ok though.

Those pics are a reminder why I wear leather
Wow...can't believe the mesh was destroyed that easily. What brand was it? And I'm sure he's not enjoying his showers right now...ouch...
he's not in to bad ah shape for a 75mph slide. while not as good as leather imagine if he had just a t-shirt on. mesh is made for one get off only. oh and i've never seen a pef leather jacket flow like a mesh one, not even close.
Dan told me about that wreck, glad he made it out really OK for the most part...seems like best case scenario for something like that...unfortunate either way. Speakin of people driving cars stupidly, you can almost see Dan's wood block for his kickstand in one of the pics too![]()
I would have called a tow company who had a flat bed. I personally dont like it when they have bikes like that.
Glad he came out okay. I either wear my mesh/textile (only mesh in the chest and back (with back protector)) or my leather.
I was wearing my leather in my accident and I came out with a slight scuff on my elbow from the armor shifting.

75 miles per hour? Either that is hyperbole or your guy is one lucky motherfucker. Khakis? Ive seen pictures of mesh jackets fail at 40 mph. Wow. The bike doesnt even look that bad.
i didn't get how this went down. was the expedition cutting off someone?
"fuckit!"
Yeah he really did get lucky.
He was in the slow lane with the expo passing him. He changed lanes into the side of the expedition. I didn't see it so thats the best account I can give.
Glad to hear he left the accident on his own two feet and not in an ambulance.
Ah...finally! An explanantion.
Yep...check the mirrors, then look left. I've had close calls myself when I thought I was clear. Also, drift into next lane, don't swerve. If you do it a little more slowly the invisable cager might be able to move or honk...
Glad he's ok...shudder to think of the million ways it could have been way worse.
...and I'm not going to say a thing about the gear cus I don't want to be called a saftey nazi by some of the other 'free choice' dipsticks here...

i dont even have a mirror on my left side, so its always a head check with either lane change. i do it on my bike and do it in my car. glad your buddy is ok. but nice job causing a traffic jam!

I'm not sure if i'm the only one here with these or not
but I love them and can't imagine riding without them.
Cost me about 3 bucks for the pair at my local Pep Boys.
They are the "wide angle" model
