    How to re-attach tank sliders?

Removed my R&G's with a heat gun, vinyl wrapped the tank, but can't get them to re-stick.

Originally I think it came with aquarium sealer to do the job, I think it was silicone.

I tried shoe goo, which stuck to the tank but only held with like half a pound of force on the sliders.

Is it because shoe goo won't work for this, or because the silicone was still on the back side of the sliders?

If the silicone was the issue, do I have to remove it (and how) or can I just scuff it up?

Any suggestions on what I should pick up on my way down to NJMP that will set by tomorrow morning will be appreciated.

Now that the tank is vinyl wrapped.... won the sliders just rip the vinyl off when it slides anyways...?

edit: the sliders I used to have on my R6 simply used that really strong double-sided 3M adhesive... you can just use that.

    Yeah I was gonna say.

Better route may have been to leave the sliders in place, install the vinyl over the sliders, use a razor to trim, remove from the sliders and smooth the vinyl around the sliders onto the tank..

Yeah... maybe trim the vinyl under where you're going to put the slider, and make the cutout just slightly smaller than the slider so you won't see the gap. Then you can adhere the slider directly to the tank. Make sure you get the super strong 3M stuff.

Come on, dude, you can't just tell someone to weld their tank without taking proper precautions. Joe Blow doesn't realize that an empty tank could crack from uneven heat distribution, you've got to have that sucker topped off first.

That vinyl has a pretty strong grip in the center (loose edge is still pretty strong, but not nearly so much) and it's pretty darn hard to rip.

I think that the worst case would be the weaker of the two would go, (i.e. not additive weakness from the two), the vinyl would be pretty close to as strong as the silicone holding the slider on and in that case the crash would be bad enough that I might to send up a "signal flare" anyways. :-)

Home Depot sells a slightly thinner version of the 3M tape that GoPro uses. Or you can get some 3M VHB off of Ebay.

Nothing will stick to silicone. You have to clean them, or start with freshies
