2008 KTM 1190 RC8 - First Ride - MotorcycleUSA.com
I'm not too sure those drawbacks they talked about would scare me away from it too much though... especially after seeing the bike in the black version below... I'm a SUCKER for a girl in black with gold shoesBut the price tag? Yeah, outta my league.
Though I kinda wish the headlights were horizontal rather than vertical.

it better be fast
10K in pounds?
With the exchange at $1.57 I cannot see that bike being priced competitively.
It's gonna be 1098 money for sure.
Putting his hands in the air, like he just doesn't care.

...and for a motorcycle that looks ok from the clip-ons back....but what's with the gigantic 'Roman Gladiator Shield' on the front. Ben Hur would have liked it...

Thats like $21500 USD.........crap.
I'm sure they'll iron out the problems over time, and they certainly don't sound like dealbreakers. I'm also sure the price will come down to be competitive, it does with euro cars, and it will with euro bikes.
I'm glad it has the vertical headlight, at least it stands out in the sea-of-supersports...
I still like it. The looks are killer. I'm a sucker for black bikes, but for this particular bike the orange is where the real secks is at.
To me, it looks like they were targeting the rc8 directly at the base model 1098, so that makes sense.
I'm sure they will come out with a hopped up version to compete with the s/r models as well, ktm is known for doing that...

I think I read somewhere that when KTM designed this bike, they actually bought two Ducati 1098's to help with the design and to figure out what they needed to do. So the 1098 is definitely the bike it's going after.
I wouldn't be surprised to see it going for for "1098 money," but Ducati is selling their share of 1098's...so there is a market for them at the price point.
As long as the bike is developed well, it will sell. It seems so far they're on the mark with a few exceptions. And let's be honest, it's a novelty motorcycle for most...just like 99.9% of our bikes are since so few of us can actually ride the bike to it's potential. So the shortcomings more often than not are shortcomings only on paper since we won't find them as much due to our riding levels.
I'm curious to see one when it becomes available. I like how it looks. I'm not sure I'd give up my 1098S for one...but we'll see I guess when the time comes. By the time I'm ready for another new bike, the KTM will have been out for a little while. Who knows what changes they'll make between now and then.

That bike is so hawt
I was expecting a stellar review of it though.
Interesting
The exchange rate isn't the only factor that determines what we'll pay. The Ducati 1098 ( non s model) goes for £11,250 in England. That would mean $22000 here. Last time I looked the 1098 was about $16K in this country. Cycle world claims the RC8 will be around $17k here.

That wasn't a very bad review for a first generation Superbike. Seems like it has some promise.
After riding a Superduke 990 in anger (on a track) I have to agree with the review of the motor. It was a good motor, but didn't 'hit' or feel like it had mad nuts. 1098 (even 'just' the base one) feels like it'll rip your arms off by comparison.
Boston --> San Diego
i still think its ugly
