Well, I'm thinking about suspension today. I was reading racetech's website, and the whole gold valve thing seems like a pretty sweet deal. Any of you guys have experience with that sort of thing? I mean, it'd be nice to replace the rear shock all together, but there's no way I'm dropping $1000 on that right now. They also mention changing the springs. Is this something I need to do? I know for cars, at least, springs pretty much never really go bad, you just upgrade to stiffer ones if you want to. It seems to me that a sportbike probably comes with pretty stiff springs to begin with. Am I wrong? Ride harshness isn't a big deal to me (I mean, within reason) My car is riding on some pretty stiff springs/shocks and I don't mind the harshness at all, so I imagine the same would be true with the bike.
I guess, in case you couldn't tell, I'm just kinda fishing for general bike suspension information/options, because I don't think that my bike (a 93 GSXR 750) handles as well as it should, and people keep telling me that the stock suspension just doesn't last very long (I have about 25K miles on the bike). So, any general info/advice/help you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated.

GSX-R 750: stock forks good, needs revalve and shims: ~ $750
Springs: life of spring depends on manufacturer. Not sure about your year of bike, Use Hpercoil.
How much do you weigh?
Oh, get a good steering damper too.

LOL... The "Ask Virtual Max" feature on the Traxxion web site is really funny.
If the parts cost $200 online and Traxxion will do it all for ~$400 (for my bike) it seems like a good deal except for having to mail your forks to them.

I had Lindemann do my forks and am very happy with them. Much more supple over bumps and not nearly as harsh over the sharp stuff.
Matt, trust me on this, with 25k miles on that gixxer, the stock suspension is well and truely clapped out. I had a 93 GSXR 750 myself and loved it. I sold mine with 24k on it and it was a wallowing pig by that time.
Springs can wear out over time but the most important thing is to match the spring rate to your individual weight.
Sportbike suspension from the factory is always gonna be a compromise. It has to handle smooth roads, rough ones, single and double passengers. No one setup will do this well, however, getting the springs done and the forks re-valved to refine it's damping characteristics makes a remarkable difference in the feel and stability of the bike.
Suspension mods are worth more than any extra HP goodies you get.

I know i'm slow, you don't have to rub it in.
Why, Yes! I do think you're a Wanker!
