Hey Guys.
I just purchased my first bike and have been riding alot this week. Its a 2006 blue/black F4i.
I haven't yet had the bike inspected, (This weekend is my plan) but how is Massachusetts on slip-on exhausts? The exhaust is a Jardine. I want to make sure that it is going to pass. The only part modified on the bike is the exhaust.
If it matters I live in the Beverly Area.
I'll post some pics of the bike tomorrow.
Welcome.
Welcome Beverly area guy!

If you bought it from a private seller, I'd go to a dealership for the 1st inspection. Most places will look for reasons to fail your bike, and the seller is responsible for making that bike pass it's safety inspection when you register it.
So I'd go somewhere thorough for the 1st time and make sure the bike doesn't need something the seller neglected to replace.
ya thats the law, but come get me. if i sold a bike, and the guy came back and said "you have to make it pass inspection". i would remind him that the bike was sold where is how is with no warranty express or implied.
i wouldn't count on a private seller. if it was a dealer, then thats a different story.
Doesn't make a difference if the car was sold as is or not, if it was sold as a running car (meaning it doesn't say "FOR PARTS" on the bill of sale) and the cost to fix the car to pass inspection is over 10% of the purchase the car the buyer has the right to sue you for the difference...
If you followed all of the above steps and the seller does not refund your money, you should explore the following options:
Mediation:
Mediation is an inexpensive and informal way to resolve your dispute without hiring an attorney and going to court. Contact the Attorney General’s Office for mediation services.
Court Action:
You may also pursue your claim through the court system. For claims under $2,000, small claims court may be the least costly alternative. Consumer Affairs publishes a Consumer’s Guide to Small Claims Court available upon request. Larger claims may be more suitable to District or Superior Court. You should seek legal advice for all claims.

First off, welcome, and nice bulletproof bike.
Second, this is how I interprate the law people are speaking out above.
The buyer has 7 days to get the car registered. From the day it is registered you have 7 days to get it in inspected, if it cannot pass, then the seller is responsible for making it pass. If you take longer than 7 days to get it registered, the seller is cleared. If you take longer than 7 days to get it inspected after registering it within 7 days of buying the car, the seller is cleared. This means you have a total a maximum of 14 days after the sale to void the sale contract Also, if it fails inspection, it must be from something wrong when sold, not damage after the sale.
If you buy a car and register it within 7, and fail an inspection within 7 days of registering the car, the seller is liable to either void the sale contract, take the car back and refund the buyers money, or pay to fix the car to pass inspection.
Thats how it was explained to me by local PD, but still don't take that for the exact truth.
My buddy went through this selling a car to his friend that his friend soon realized he couldn't afford, and tried to get out of it.
Third: The most thing shops fail bikes for are for illegal lights...you're in beverly, try out cycles 128 for a sticker, if you have the proper turn signals, brake lights, and a horn, I'll bet you pass with a slip-on. If they don't pass you, try North Reading Power Sports.

You're right down the road from me. Welcome!
im telling you, for a bike
this law will not work.
i know from experience.
if you haven't had to deal with this law (with a bike), and you are posting things that "you heard about"
your post is null and void.
don't go to a dealer to get your bike inspected, go to a performance shop.
if your lights and horn work, tires have tread on them, you will pass
i've seen alot of jardine slip on exhausts on F4i's, you should not have an issue with the exhaust..

the law is the same for motorcyles as well as cars and trucks. not be a jerk snowcrossmxz, but it looks like i'd never buy anything from you.
i personally found about about this clause of the lemon law when I purcahsed my street bike. my bike failed inspection because of the rear sprocket, front/rear tires, inspection plate light, and chain guard. unfortunately, i purchased from someone out of MA & the law didnt protect me on this case.
i bet you went to a dealer..
the point is, that you could have looked at the tires when u bought it, and every thing else that was wrong with it. thats on you to check out what you are buying.
and thats how i operate. the bike is what it is. if you are good at buying things you will have a mechanic look at before you buy it. and i won't hide any thing wrong with the bike, actually, i point things out and say this is why im asking this price.
if you don't check it out then thats your gamble, and your fault.
im glad you brought up tires, because usually that is what people come back to me about. and i always say, i told you it needed tires.
Stay away from cycles 128. Never had a good experience there.

All this bitching over an exhaust?
Seeing how OP says the only mod is the slip-on, seems to me a good option would be to source a rashed up OEM slip-on for $cheap.95 and go pass inspection with that.
You send that PM yet?
